The only reason he went back to HI in the first place, was to sign some documents in person so that his birth records could officially be kept sealed. The HI Governor stated that fact shortly after he left, if I recall.

I can’t stand the guy, but criticizing him for that is just a little ridiculous. My understanding is that his grandparents pretty much raised him; his dad was absent and his mom was flaky. It must have been difficult for him not to be able to be there.
