“I expect that he might get a little better, but he did not come across well at this press conference. He looked very uncomfortable.
His attempts at glibness were awkward; his feighned interest in a reporter wearing a sling was just as bad.
I’m thinking this guy thinks he’s a Jack Kennedy in front of the press, but it turns out, at least this time, he fell very flat. They’ll cover for him as much as possible, but I don’t think he’s going to do much live stuff.
With his cult of personality, I figure he’s more likely to release videos instead speaking to the press live. He may even require the press to submit their questions ahead of time.”
Wes Pruden’s description of him as “humorless” was right on target. When he wandered off script during the last debate, he made no sense. I think your observations are correct.
The first post-election press conferences are supposed to be happy, free-wheeling affairs. Pres. G.W. Bush was loose, humorous and took questions for 45 minutes. I was shocked when I was away from my radio for 15 minutes and came back to the car and it was over. That’s it? After being 20 minutes late?
I’m willing to give this guy a chance, but maybe I’m wrong. Is he really this bad away from a script?
