Democrats talk of a ‘permanent progressive majority’ By: Andy Barr November 7, 2008 01:38 PM EST

Echoing Karl Rove's words from four years ago, Democratic pollsters on Friday touted the creation of a “permanent progressive majority.”

“This was not just a change election, but a sea-change election,” Robert Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for America’s Future, said during remarks at the National Press Club. “This is the end of the conservative era.”

“What you’re seeing in the nation is the emergence of a center-left majority,” Borosage continued. “We are witnessing the creation of a permanent progressive majority.”

Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg agreed, saying that the United States is now “in a progressive period.”

“The conservative movement brought about by the Gingrich revolution has been crushed,” he said.

Greenberg pointed to exit polls conducted by his firm, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, showing that Democrats hold a significant edge over Republicans on the issues on which most voters based their decision on Election Day.

“Area after area people have tilted toward the progressive policy,” Greenberg said pointing specifically to the economy, the war in Iraq, energy and healthcare. “There has been a change in the way we think about society and the economy, and Democrats have a huge advantage.”

Shortly after the GOP’s triumphant 2004 election, Rove heralded the beginning of a “permanent Republican majority.” After the win, Republicans, at the direction of Rove, began looking for ways to expand the tent, specifically reaching out to black and Hispanic voters.

But the Republican Party’s effort to expand its coalition collapsed not long after Rove’s declaration, as continued bad news from Iraq, a failed response to Hurricane Katrina and charges of corruption on Capitol Hill sunk the GOP’s prospects in 2006, a trend that continued in 2008.

Cancer is progressive and the dems are a big cancer, killing liberty while reaping all kinds of riches for themselves and their cronies. Even the conservative kind are a cancer because they enable the malignant, progressive Party leaders in positions of power.

What makes you think we will be playing by the same rules or with the same constituents (20 million illegals could be registered to vote by then)?

I have come to realize that whenever the DEMS give something a great-sounding title, the crux of their drive is almost exactly the opposite.

So, when I hear Permanent Progressive Majority, I think hmmm, what they really want is an arbitrary, backwards, kingdom where the Majority are the serfs and the ruling class are the elites.

I’d say they pretty much have it already.

Did you get that from President Goldwater? Call up the Senate and talk to Senators Santorum, Allen, Burns, or Talent? How about Congressman J. D. Hays? Oh, those are all RINOs, I forgot.

Yes, I am concerned about the new voters they will legalize (which we would have gotten under McCain too, so that issue was a wash). What gives me “hope” is that many Dems in the House ran as conservatives and won...if/when 0bama lurches hard to the left, and continues to “creep people out”, they will lose their seats.

As far as stopping elections, etc., that will not be tolerated in this country, even a large amount of Democrats would not be comfortable with that, and an armed insurrection would occur. I bought 500 rounds of ammunition today, just to be prepared.

I agree with him, but for different reasons. It’s hard enough for conservatives to campaign against their opponent, but they also have to overcome academia, the unions, Holloywood and the MSM, who all actively and freely campaign for the dems, but demographics is the one area conservatives can’t overcome.

We will see some form of comprehensive immigration reform which will give citizenship to many. Also, vast numbers of anchor babies are coming of voting age. If one more person tells me how we can gain the Latino, I thik I’ll puke. it ain’t gonna happen.

American voters are fickle. Obama & the RATS promised pie and if voters don’t get their “pie”, they will dump the RATS in a New York second!

Yo'Rats! It's been three days and I still haven't got my Free Stuff from the Government. What's the matter with you all?

PROGRESSIVES - That’s what socialists called themselves in the 30’s. The same old same old.

Right, I’m having a hard time figuring out what the best is to buy. I plan on shooting my new gun this Saturday. I bought 45, 50 and 55 grain Remington 223. The 45 and 50 are hollow points, and much more expensive.

Wow. When I heard the GOP say that I knew it was bad. That is the sign of a near term “top”...just like the stock market at 14000. But I didn’t expect them to make such an absurd statement so quickly.

They have only had power for TWO YEARS, and they did THAT in part by electing more CENTRIST democrats in the house. They aren’t going to be able to keep the lunatic left happy AND keep the more centrist dems in their seat at the same time.

This could come crashing down VERY quickly. If the economy gets worse, the electorate will not blame Bush for 4 straight years. If we get a recovery though, zer0 will get all the credit. That is what I am afraid of. We will rebound , and just like Clinton, zer0 may get credit for something he had nothing to do with.

Progressives are what Stalinists call themselves when they pretend to be liberal.

The more “progressive” it is the less permanent it will be.

If and when 0bama starts to govern as a “progressive” (i.e. a flaming liberal) he guarantees loss of congressional seats in 2010. More “progressive”ness makes sure he looses POTUS in 2012.

“Permanent Progressive Majority”?
Why can’t they just call a spade a spade?
They use Progressive whenever they mean Socialist.

They believe it, will claim a mandate where none exists, overplay their hand and get crushed in 2010, 2012.

They have nowhere to hide now. They control The House, The Senate and The Presidency. There are no scapegoats in the R party now, they own it all.
