Democrats talk of a permanent progressive majority By: Andy Barr November 7, 2008 01:38 PM EST
Echoing Karl Rove's words from four years ago, Democratic pollsters on Friday touted the creation of a permanent progressive majority.
This was not just a change election, but a sea-change election, Robert Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for Americas Future, said during remarks at the National Press Club. This is the end of the conservative era.
What youre seeing in the nation is the emergence of a center-left majority, Borosage continued. We are witnessing the creation of a permanent progressive majority.
Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg agreed, saying that the United States is now in a progressive period.
The conservative movement brought about by the Gingrich revolution has been crushed, he said.
Greenberg pointed to exit polls conducted by his firm, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, showing that Democrats hold a significant edge over Republicans on the issues on which most voters based their decision on Election Day.
Area after area people have tilted toward the progressive policy, Greenberg said pointing specifically to the economy, the war in Iraq, energy and healthcare. There has been a change in the way we think about society and the economy, and Democrats have a huge advantage.
Shortly after the GOPs triumphant 2004 election, Rove heralded the beginning of a permanent Republican majority. After the win, Republicans, at the direction of Rove, began looking for ways to expand the tent, specifically reaching out to black and Hispanic voters.
But the Republican Partys effort to expand its coalition collapsed not long after Roves declaration, as continued bad news from Iraq, a failed response to Hurricane Katrina and charges of corruption on Capitol Hill sunk the GOPs prospects in 2006, a trend that continued in 2008.

Thousand year Reich?
If these nuts believe this they’ll be out of power in the Congress in 2010.
Um. How then does one explain the results of the marriage definition ballot measures in Florida, Arizona and EVEN CALIFORNIA!!!
Absolutely correct. The 'rats had to pretend to be far more conservative than they are in order to win. They were helped by the GOP going as liberal as possible.
Note to GOP: you win when you run (and govern) as conservatives!
On Tuesday, only 20% of voters identified themselves as liberals. About 60% as conservatives or moderates.
These folks are smoking somethin’
I’m old enough to remember when the Democratic Party was being consigned to the ash heap several times. Guess what? Everything is cyclical. In 2010, the Republicans will pick up house and senate seats. Then in 2012, events will determine what happens.
...a permanent LIBERAL majority, that is.
Love how they renamed themselves to get out from under the stigma of the word “liberal”. Like putting lipstick on the proverbial pig.
Thousand year reich or thousand yard stare.
obama’s ‘True Believers’ just aren’t going to like the pain the ‘change’ brings.
There’s a reason obama told them they would have to change their lifestyle, no suvs, lower your thermostat, etc.
The natives aren’t patient, they grow restless quickly.
Redistribute the ‘wealth’? What wealth?
I only hope you are right...
Delusional...............
The ‘progressive’ fantasy carjack will run quickly into a brick wall when deceived voters realize THEY are the source of all the money their misleaders lust to spend.
The story behind the story in Oakland is a perfect example and it is just the tip of the iceberg ahead of the Obamatanic.
Passage of OO wreaks havoc with Oakland budget

Don’t count them chicken a’fore they hatch, ya’ll Rats!
Please let them keep this mindset through 2010.
American voters are fickle. Obama & the RATS promised pie and if voters don’t get their “pie”, they will dump the RATS in a New York second!
I believe the Republicans said something almost exactly like this when the neo-cons swept into power. Seems it didn’t turn out so well for them, I seriously wouldn’t expect it for the Dems either.
Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
go ahead as hard left as you can as fast as you can, please.
Dems are not capable of governing. Where ever they have complete control, they create a mess. Cities include Washington, DC, Philly, etc. States include Michigan, California, etc.
And internationally, no countries that govern like American Dems succeed either.
Socialism does not work.
