McCain - and maybe Palin - to stump for Chambliss
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 11/7/8 | JIM THARPE

Posted on 11/07/2008 9:38:40 AM PST by SmithL

U.S. Sen. John McCain will come to Georgia to campaign for Republican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, the Moultrie lawmaker’s campaign confirmed Friday.

“We just have to work out the dates,” said Chambliss’s spokeswoman, Michelle Grasso.

Grasso said the campaign is also in touch with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office about a possible Georgia appearance.

“She wants to come down, but right now we are working with her schedulers to see if that’s possible,” Grasso said.

Chambliss is headed for a Dec. 2 runoff with Democratic challenger Jim Martin of Atlanta. Neither candidate got a majority of the vote in their Nov. 4 contest with Libertarian Allen Buckley.

A high-profile runoff between Chambliss and Martin will likely attact political bigwigs from both sides.

Martin’s campaign has already been in touch with President-elect Barack Obama about a possible Georgia appearance, but Obama had not cofirmed an appearance as of Friday.

Even though Obama won the presidency, McCain led the vote tally in Georgia.

“The pitch is “Georgia, do you really want to give the Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate? Do you?”

That should be enough.”

The “Save the RINOs” club motto. Vote RINO or the big, bad Democrats will get you.

Like you, I like Sarah a lot. My problem is that I do not trust Saxby at all, and it seems as though a lot of folks feel the same way I do. Unless Saxby is willing to stand up and be counted as a conservative, instead of just another Lindsey Graham or John McCain, then he will not receive my vote again. The choice is Saxby’s to make, and it is getting late. Better for my way to lose without giving up my principles, than to give in to the Obamaites and the demorats like McCain did. In fact, Johnny better get his act together too, or he will be a one-termer also!

“Saxby will hold this seat. No way the Dem turnout will match what it did without Obama on the ticket.”

The problem won’t be Dem turnout. The problem is conservatives are totally unenthused about (or outright angry at) Chambliss. It is very likely a high percentage of the Republican base that voted on the 4th won’t vote in the runoff.

You’ll also have conservatives (like me) that will be casting an anti-RINO vote in the runoff.

So you would rather get Jim Martin who will vote to deep-six your 401K?

Spin your anti-RINO voet anyway you want but in a 2-way race you’re voting FOR Jim Martin.

She should live down there until the runoff is over.

She can stay with me. Lemme ask my wife if it's ok.

“Spin your anti-RINO voet anyway you want but in a 2-way race you’re voting FOR Jim Martin.”

Has it crossed your mind that continually re-electing RINOs (becuase they are better than the Democratic alternative) is what got us to the point we are at today?

Every election cycle we’re asked (no expected) to vote for the RINO to save us from the Democrat. And every election cycle the number of RINOs holding office increases, and the number of conservative Republicans holding office decreases.

What you are asking the voting equivalent of the recent bank bailout. The market was going though a correction. Had we left it alone, it would have corrected itself. It would have been a hard, sharp correction, but it also would have been short. And once it was over, we would have been quickly back on the road to recovery.

The bank bailout may have softened the landing, but I’ll gurantee it also extended the time the problem will exist, and introduced some unpredicable changes we don’t even know about yet.

I don’t think we should bail out the banks, and I don’t think we should bail out the Reublicans. Will things be bad for a while? Yes, but it will be for a limited time. A bailout would make things worse OVER THE LONG RUN.

Re-electing Chambliss will provide more cushion against a “Dems Gone Wild” fillibuster-proof Congress. Saxby hasn't been the greatest senator, from a conservative’s perspective, but he will reliably vote against most of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda. That threesome could set the US back to 1977 or worse, 1965. No thanks. I'll be voting for Chambliss as a much, much lesser evil than Martin.

Please someone, just tell McCain to stay home. If we intend for Chambliss to hold that seat, the last thing we need it to John McCain’s face stumping for him.

The big thing for me is that if he loses, we run a real risk of having a hard time of ejecting Martin in years to come. He has the AJC and some downtown liberals that will really shill for him next cycle.

Chambliss is a great example of a politician we need to get knocked out in the primaries next time around unless he grows a spine.

“... the point we are at today”

Where we are today is much, much better than where we were in 1965 or 1976. I know from experience - I lived (and paid taxes) through the late 1960s and the 1970s when the Dems ruled Congress with an iron fist. Pelosi, Reid, and Obama would like to return us to those years. Chambliss, for all his faults, will help prevent a return to those dark days. The period 1965 to 1980 was the worst in my lifetime, and I include the Nixon years in that indictment because of all the federal government expansion he presided over in collaboration with the Dems.

please define “limited time” under a fillibuster proof Pelosi and Reid and rubber-stamp White House.

Have you read what Miller wants to do with 401K plans?

As RINO as Saxby may be, I don’t ever see him voting for that.

“Amnesty for illegal alien law breakers and killers?”

When I was driving along the Gulf Coast in Jun 2006, I stayed at a small campground near Mobile. Met and spoke with a Mexican staying there. He said he was working there for an Atlanta contracting company painting for $4 an hour. When I asked him if he could get work at home would he rather live in Mexico. He said he would like to live there, but what he liked here is that the police are honest.

This illegal alien problem is never going to be solved as long as big contractors (and political contributors) can get away with hiring illegals for $4 per hour. Nor will it be solved until the drug crime/police corruption problem south of the border is greatly improved.

Please don't bring McCain down here.

Palin, on the other hand, would be great. I would travel miles with my kids on my back to support her!

If McCain comes, bring eggs.

Is it ok to say that now that he isn't a presidential candidate?

If anyone has a real method of communicating with Gov. Palin, please do so. She would “seal the deal” for this “last chance” RINO.

I hate to ask for help for him, but are we between a rock and a hard spot right now.

I just got off the phone with the Chambliss campaign.

I am assured that Sen. Chambliss is VERY aware of the need to have Gov. Palin stump for him, and it IS IN THE WORKS!

They are only waiting on a the availability of her schedule.

I repeat...I was just told that...Gov. Palin is coming to Georgia!!!
