The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.
Remember that Little White Card that Bill Clinton held up as your “health care card”? It would have had your approved diet on it from the 1st Directorate of Dietary Compliance. Just try to get an unapproved food item by the Check Out Clerk who is an agent for Barack’s Civilian Security Force. Second Offense? No Soup For You! Third Offense - two weeks starvation. True - My girls attend for two months each summer. There is a rotation of responsibilities including sweeping, dusting, taking care of the animals and plants, chalkboards, trash, serving lunch, picking up and returning lunch items from the kitchen(they eat in the classroom), cleaning the halls, etc. Kids actually enjoy it as a break from sitting and it’s expected as a matter of course so there isn’t any complaining.
That being said - there is no such thing as compulsory voluntarism and what they are referring to here is a croc.
Involuntary servitude. The 13th Amendment freed us of this.

This mandatory service issue was an old Kennedy policy that they attempted to make into state law in Maryland in 1992.

My son attends a Christian High School and has mandatory service hours to graduate. I don’t have a problem with this because we are sending him to the school for the values. He can choose where his service hours are spent. I’m sure Christian charities will be off the list. I hate Socialist and Democrats.

All it takes is for one suburban kid to get knifed while doing mandatory community service work in the “hood” and the political firestorm and lawsuits will end any such a program immediately.

I truly fear for my children and cannot believe that my generation has sold out our freedom and liberty (what was left of it) for the promise of “goodies” from the 50% that work hard and pay taxes. I am so thankful that my parents aren’t alive to see what has happened to our country. We must fight, fight, fight for our liberty (unlike the way McCain “fought” for us!).
No doubt. And there will be more if Obama gets past the first term, which he began running for Tuesday night.
Only certain people will be able to drive at all, for the good of the world, and you’ll have to have special status to drive anything but a PrIOUS.
