Franken's deficit: 236 votes
Minneapolis Star-Tribune ^ | 11/7/08 | Patricia Lopez

Just as Secretary of State Mark Ritchie was explaining to reporters the recount process in one of the narrowest elections in Minnesota history, an aide rushed in with news: Pine County's Partridge Township had revised its vote total upward -- another 100 votes for Democratic candidate Al Franken, putting him within .011 percentage points of Republican U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman.

The reason for the change? Exhausted county officials had accidentally entered 24 for Franken instead of 124 when the county's final votes were tallied at 5:25 Wednesday morning.

"That's why we have recounts," Ritchie said, surveying the e-mail sent in from the county auditor. "Human error. People make mistakes."

The margin in the tightest Senate race in the country bounced like the stock market throughout the day, with the difference between Coleman and Franken dropping, then rising briefly to 590 votes before shooting down to a razor-thin 236 by day's end.

In a reversal of the previous day, when Coleman had declared victory and suggested that Franken should waive a recount, Coleman kept to himself on Thursday, while Franken called reporters to talk about the prospects for a continued narrowing of the count....

People from each state should worry about their own Senator. We’re all freaking out about how many people in Minnesota could vote for Franken or the Libertarian candidate. Hey it’s their business up in Minnesota. As for me, I’m just getting ready to laugh at the next lib our illustrious Gov will appoint to Obozo’s vacancy. Personally I’d love to see Rod f his fellow Dems and nominate a centrist however if Rod and Rezko want their pardons he’s gonna have to nominate Jesse Jr or Gutierrez

It is analogous to Wallace supporters in 1968, who damned near gave us Humphrey instead of Nixon.

Analogous, perhaps to Perot who created the slide downward with and via disdain for GHWB only to give us Schlickmiester/Hitlery which only promoted what transpired this election cycle.

Actually, that’s 0’s plan. The Kibaki-Odinga solution.

So in a warped and convoluted way, Perot gave us Obama. (That, and the Republicans, oddly enough, did not field a candidate)

The filibuster issue is a dead letter. Google Senate Nuclear Option.

Republicans threatened to use it in 2004. Democrats will most certainly use it in 2009.

With guys like Nelson from Nebraska, Lieberman and other center Dems this is an issue that will rarely arise.

Yeah, it is possible to find decent Democrats at the local level. My county constable is a Dem, just got re-elected again; he’s been in office for about 40 years now. Great guy. I voted for him.

It’s weird; he’s conservative and I’d be shocked if he told me he voted for Obama, but every election you see that little D next to his name on the ballot. I guess he’d be classified as a blue-dog democrat.

Not at all, he was “Landslide Lyndon”, and the Texans adored him. They gave him about 65 percent of the vote in 1964.

That’s a funny line. There are so many idiotic voters in all states that we really should not condemn specific states, but I do it all the time. America is for sure full of idiots.

Yes, but Zell learned his class from Lester G. Maddox, who declared Jimmy Carter “the most dishonest man I ever met.”

Barry M. Goldwater declared his fellow abortion backer Richard M. Nixon “the most dishonest man I ever met.”

MN may be trying to punish us for rejecting HHH in 1968.

More proof that the reasoning ability of the electorate has declined to the level of pimply faced dingle berry pickers....

For Franken to come that close is disgusting......truly disgusting...

What the hell happened to Americans?

Al Franken is a deficit. Minnesota is the most liberal laddened goofy arsed place I’ve ever lived. Thankfully I left for Western Wisconsin, and only have to work there. Sometimes I feel like I’m on some other planet. Most of the lunatics have never been further south than Iowa, east of Chicago and west of S Dakota. They are incapsulated in their own world, but of course consider themselves so worldly. Crazyness an understatment. Al Franken’s a perfect fit for most of them.

Perhaps someone in Sen. Coleman’s campaign should “find” some additional ballots too. Hell, it’s the only way he’s going to keep these marxists from stealing the election.
