The pride cycle - on a scale of 1-8 we are a 7

The United States of America is a constitutional republic that is fundamentally structured as a representative democracy. While there is some dispute as to who actually wrote the words to “Downfall of Democracy,” its message is clear and worth repeating.

“A democracy is always temporary in nature: it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority will always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.”

“The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;

From spiritual faith to great courage;

From courage to liberty;

From liberty to abundance;

From abundance to complacency;

From complacency to apathy;

From apathy to dependence;

From dependency back into bondage.”

Our nation’s history is revealed in these words. From our escape from King George, to our declaration of independence, to our becoming the wealthiest country in the history of the world.

In 2006, 67% of the $2.655 trillion of annual government spending was on entitlement programs, social programs and physical, human, and community development. The bottom 50% of wage earners pay little or no federal income taxes and many who don’t pay taxes get tax rebates (direct government subsidies). Now we’re being promised even more tax subsidies for the bottom 50% as well as $1,000 energy rebate checks. Soon, the government will likely own your mortgage, own part of your bank and could end up being responsible for your health care. Vote for less government, not more. Vote for Democracy.

While searching for the pride cycle which I think defines man's inability to learn from the past, I ran across it in the form of a letter to which was just recently published. Many of you have probably read it but it bears repeating. I plan to send this in as a letter to the editor also. Vigiliance- persistence- patience and humility.

The problem as I see it is you can't learn from the past when the majority of your populace is ignorant of history. In our case, it's no accident. Look at what has happened to the skools since 1978.

I think we're just entering the "apathy to dependence" stage in the cycle. The real question is can we get back to the "courage to liberty" stage while avoiding the bondage?

Yes but our fight must be in the arena of ideas. In a debate with a true conservative that is able to articulate and communicate effectively Obama would lose.

He has grand apirations and hopes to Change America and then change the world, but his changes require two things from us, giving Washington and him more power over our lives and giving him more of our tax dollars.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can
prevent the government from wasting the labors of the
people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)

We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.

Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826),
letter to Samuel Kercheval, July 12, 1816

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away
from those who are willing to work and give to those
who would not.

Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)
