Latinos push for Cabinet posts [La Raza alert]
Politico ^ | 2008-11-07 | Gebe Martinez

Weeks before Barack Obama won the presidency, he met privately in Washington with his former Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, and Latino political leaders who had fervently backed her bid.

The cards were laid upon the table, according to one of the participants. The Hispanic leaders said they expected at least two Latinos to be named to an Obama Cabinet — meeting the standard set by President-elect Bill Clinton in 1992 — but preferred three. Of course, they also wanted sub-Cabinet-level posts.

In return, Obama needed assurances that Hispanics — who had overwhelmingly voted for Clinton during the Democratic primaries — would be mobilized in large enough numbers to make him the winner in the battleground states of Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Florida.

On Election Day, Obama won all four states over Republican John McCain largely because of the Latino vote.

. . . . .

Hispanics delivered. Now the question is, how much can Latinos expect from Obama?

Cecilia Munoz, vice president of National Council of La Raza, said, “It’s a foregone conclusion that we should be at the table for policy debates and in a position of authority,” because Hispanics are affected by major issues facing all voters. Latinos will be prominent in an Obama administration “just as we would be in any administration moving forward,” she added.

McCain's "friends" at La Raza have discarded him like a used Antonio Banderas love doll.

Not Americans but latinos. Nothing racist about that. Whites beware, we’re going to be punished.

One of the talking heads (can't remember who) commented yesterday that Obama would have been far better off with a Republican controlled Congress because he'd have a boogieman to blame his failures on. Instead, he's got a strong DemocRat majority in both houses of Congress and the loons are coming out of the woodwork expecting him to actually make good on the things he's promised. I reflected on that comment and realized straight away how brilliant it was. Imagine having Code Pink, the Enviro-Natzis, and all the other kook fringe groups lined up at your door with their hands out.

Man, are these folks ever in for a huge disappointment. There simply is no way Obama or any other man can be all things to all people. If nothing else, it's going to be entertaining to watch.....

With all the special interest groups BO has to pander to....I doubt he will have time to shower let alone redistribute the wealth, set up a new health care system, deal with foreign policy and remain the messiah.....

Don’t worry, McCain will be working hand in glove with Obama to get an amnesty passed.

Great pic, but - sad to say - it already IS “happening”.

Look at California.
Look at New Mexico.
In both states, Euros are now a minority of the population, and both states have essentially “gone blue forever”.

Arizona is between them and although it voted red this time (for its native son), the writing is on the wall there, too.

Even Texas may shift blue when the millions of illegals there are made legal. I feel confident in predicting that a post-amnesty Texas will become a “battleground state” at best. No longer reliably red.

Flame me if you wish. But there is a force at work that trumps ALL politics, and it’s one of those fancy concepts called demographics. And demographics are truly “destiny”, political and otherwise.

It’s the reason that this continent is no longer populated mainly by Indians.
And it is also the reason why “Emerging Atzlan” ain’t no joke any more...

- John

Who the hell are you talking about? You need to begin that word with a hyphenated prefix, like "Hispanic", or "African", or "Marxist".

"Bush's Fault"

Yeah, that'll probably work for a while, but by year two of our dear leader's term it will ring very hollow because Bush will be nowhere to be found. Similarly, the notion that the congressional Republicans are being "obstructionist" won't fly by year two, either. It should be clear, even to the casual observer, that the coming DemocRat failures will be wholly owned by the DemocRats......and I predict there will be many of them. So many, in fact, that the 'Pubbies will take back control of Congress. Remember, you heard it here first.....
