Forbes: Obama Will Be Forced to the Center

Steve Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine, says he expect President-elect Barack Obama to be forced by the economy to "govern from the center," not the far left, as some fear.

"When Clinton came into office, the economy was growing at a 4 percent rate at the end of 1992. Now we have negative growth. Last quarter was 0.3 percent decline,” Forbes told Fox Business News.

“So, short term, yes. Obama will move to the center. He is a calculating enough man to know you are not going to be effective in office if you do things that people think are destructive to the economy."

The mounting federal debt, for one, will hamper Obama's far-left impulses, Forbes said. Federal spending could exceed $1.5 trillion, pushing up the government's fiscal year debt by more than 25 percent in a year.

Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh strong disagrees with the notion that Obama will move to the center once in power.

Steve Forbes is an idiot. What possible motivation do the marxists have to "govern from the center?" When have they ever, unless they had to to stay in power? The lack of money is meaningless. I disagree with Forbes on this. Obama’s policies,once implemented, will destroy the economy to the point where he will have to take drastic measures, ala Hugo Chavez. IMO, that is the goal.
