Regular Folks United ^ | November 6, 2008 | Kerri Houston Toloczko

News has been circulating around GOP insiders for weeks that McCain campaign honchos Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt were planning to blame Sarah Palin for McCain’s loss. This was expected to be an effort to punt the blame for their own failures to the side of the ticket that was most popular with the base, attracted the largest rally crowds, and scared the living bejeepers out of the opposing party.

Sometimes you have to spank ‘em (or at least be firm) to get ‘em to learn. I suspect the GOP will not get back to conservative principles unless the “base” makes it very clear that it will defect otherwise.

During the campaign was “not the time” — I voted for McCain because I think he’s a decent guy and I hoped for some measure of damage control (as opposed to Obama.)

Now IS the time.

What happened? The only Conservative in the whole race was Sara. The RINOs that were in charge saw to it that she was mishandled from the start. We don't stand a chance in hell of winning in 2012 unless we have true Conservatives running and only true Conservatives in the back ground. Your dislike for Sara is very telling. She energized the base. McCains map would have looked like carters in 1980 without Sara. This is a Conservative board not a Republican board.

You know... I wonder how many Dem primaries are “open” compared to Repub primaries. Rush seemd to be saying the Dems have a lot more effect on Repub primaries, than Repubs do on Dem primaries. Even given “Operation Chaos”. Does anyone have some figures on this?

I think they really like each other too.
I will never forget the reaction in our livingroom during her first speech - even my husband was crying.
I will do anything I can to help her - don’t know how long it will take her to recover from such a trashing - we felt so sorry for her and she was so brave!
Love her, love her, love her!!!

You’re misreading my posts - I like her a lot. I became increasingly disappointed in her public performances though, I have to admit, even aside from the edited interviews, etc. I know she energized the base and brought out the vote to a certain extent, but clearly not enough for us to win the election. Would she bring out more of the base if she were the Prez candidate - this is the question.

I understand this is a conservative board, I’m a conservative who thinks Palin has all the right ideas but maybe isn’t the best candidate for 2012. There are a lot of great conservatives out there who nevertheless are not going to win elections - e,g, Keyes a very well-spoken conservative who also lost to you know who... albeit under hurried circumstances. look at what happened to Santorum, too. We have to be careful who we pick in 2012 even while picking conservatives.

You have it all wrong here - McCain was the one that was to get the democrats and independents. While I much preferred the other candidates, I voted for Mccain in the primary because I thought he was the only one that could beat the democrats. The only time I was for mccain was after he picked Sarah.
You talk about dunderheads - Bidden is the biggest disgrace - Sarah never stuck her foot in her mouth like Biden did and that jerk has been in the Senate forever.
I think Obama is a sleeper - (as in WWII) - change the country and change the world - and the Obama symbol - that also sounds familiar - we will see...

This is a load of crap. McCain defended Palin as recently as the day before the election with ads...he went on SNL with her.

McCain hardly gave Palin the time of day when she was running with him.

He muzzled her from speaking of the things from a conservative point of view which would have been his only chance of winning.

He gave the election to Obama.

On SNL he ridiculed Palin.

His defense of her was no where near his praise of Obama.

The Left ridicules Sarah out of fear. They know that she is the greatest possible danger to Barack in 2012.

Gretchen, you are absolutely correct. I have posted numerous times on FR about the dismal local Repub campaign HQ’s (2 of them, one in a (still) red state, and one in a blue.) I ended up with a few yard signs for local candidates (neither HQ had any McCain-Palin signs) and made up my own McCain-Palin signs to put in my car windows. You had to do a fair amount of hunting on McCain’s site just to find out where to order bumper stickers — I wish I’d found that sooner, as the bulk prices were actually quite reasonable. The site itself was painfully slow for anyone on dialup and layout / organization -— my teenage nephew designs better sites. I could go on, but you’ve “tagged it” very well, already.

I am not sure what we as FReepers can do to address this, but, it sure does need to be addressed!

Does anybody have any clues as to any Repub candidates who seem to “get” all this?

Yes she does.

And more than that, she scares the GOP even to an even greater degree.

They need to destroy her to keep their party as close to the liberalism of the Democrats.

They have lost their way and are self destructing.People have been saying we need a third party.

No we don't.

We need a second party, a Conservative one.

The R's are on fast track to becoming the D's.

“It just goes to show that McCain really is the POS everyone who couldn’t stand him said he was, all along.”

McCain is a 14 carat puke. He could stop this. He died like a dog in that stupid, lame concession speech. What a pathetic man. No more Rino’s.

There has only been one candidate that has been inspiring to me and that was Reagan. At 21 it was my first vote. I was for the first time not going to vote at all until she came on the ticket. She has given me hope that we can have morning in America again. This thread is about defending one of our own against some petty bastards who if I ever find out is running a campaign no matter who it is I will work to have them defeated. Start another thread if you want about who you would like in 2012.

Get ready for the mid-term elections - right on!
They cut up my district so bad that now we’re in with a pile of democrats -
We must
1)find a totally clean candidate (younger, groom them for speaking, etc.)
2)do massive research on the incumbant democrat (all legal records, all associations, all congressional votes and everything else
3)Set up websites for each district and state with walking, phone lists, etc. with blogs - not worthless chats like on teamsarah.org.
Any ideas how we can get organized?

I mostly agree, but, McCain didn’t even use Obama’s breaking his word about using public financing effectively.

Not to mention that what I ran into concerns the RNC as a whole, not just the McCain campaign.

Besides, how much money does it take to come up with a decent website? Sheesh...

You are right - even with $600 million, the grassroots Bush campaign in 2004 really wasn’t all THAT much better.

BTW, about that “editing” (etc.), if you haven’t seen it, try to find an episode of Babylon 5, “The Illusion of Truth”, which makes your point (and more that applies) in a most chilling fashion.
