That Drill Sergeant doesnt seem to know anything about sitting back and calling in Artillery to do the job. The Drill Sergeant is discussing personal defense. Now, I happen to agree with you that indirect fire is a game winner but I'm having a hard time getting the wife to let me put 105s in the back yard.
Any advice is appreciated.

Paint it white and hang baskets off it filled with flowers. Preferably something that blooms through out the season.
Women love hanging baskets.

I'm having a hard time getting the wife to let me put 105s in the back yard.Have you considered the M777 155mm? At 5 tons it's about twice as heavy as an M101 but I figure I can still tow it behind the Tahoe. The M777 gives you 30km range, unassisted - which for me would put Berkeley and most of southern Marin within range. Only problems are the price tag ($1 megabuck) and the fact that it won't fit in my current garage.

Remember, it's indirect fire.
Put the 155 SPs 10 klicks away, shoot in the back yard, apply the met message every day, and you are one phone call and a short time of flight away from total home security.
How would she ever know?????

I can see your wife’s point. 105’s do take up some space. Maybe she would feel better about mortars. Smaller, still offer a big bang and can be disguised as planters :-)
