We lost because of the bad economy.

Conservativism was not in play and even with a conservative nominee, it would not have mattered.

The economy was the main issue and voters took it out on the sitting president. They then blamed the nominee of the same party as the sitting president.

Fellow Freepers, please respond and prove me wrong. I want to be proved wrong. Thanks.

I think you're right. But I'd also point out that John McCain was about as uninspiring a candidate as we've seen from the GOP since Bob Dole.

It's about time we realized that nominating an old man -- especially one who looks even older than he is -- is a losing proposition in today's age of television-based political campaigns.

I’ve been going over it and over it in my head all day and I agree with you. I just don’t think it would have mattered who we ran this time- it was not to be. This was a protest vote against Dubya.
