One of the aides tells CNN that campaign manager Rick Davis fired Scheunemann after determining that he had been in direct contact with journalists spreading "disinformation" about campaign aides, including Nicolle Wallace and other officials.

"He was positioning himself with Palin at the expense of John McCain's campaign message," said one of the aides.

I have an observation and an idea:

Since the death of Lee Atwater, the GOP has not had a heavy hitter. Plain and simple. The GOP needs a heavy hitter, who he or she is, I don't know. Perhaps Ton Delay?

Idea: The search should start NOW. There should be a master list of presidential and vice presidential candidates created immediately. It should be a diverse list of potential candidates from all walks of life: military, governors, Lt. governors, State AG’s, Congressmen/women, mayors, etc.

To recreate the party, outside the box (and Beltway) methods must be utilized.

BTW, I think it's over nationally for Gov. Palin - she's been Quayled.

McCain should have fired his ENTIRE communications staff over the Katie Couric/Charles Gibson interviews. Pre taped interviews ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! with the drive bys? Rush Limbaugh NEVER does those. It's a live interview or nothing. Who was running that communications team...Mickey Mouse?...wait Mickey Mouse would have actually done a better job than whatever hacks signed off on the nonsense that made Palin look horrible.

Couric and Gibson took their interview edits and created "Palin flubs of the day" to make it look like she did 14 different interviews with 14 different flubs.

BECAUSE of you Gov. Palin, McCain came a LOT closer to winning. BECAUSE of Gov. Palin, the conservative base came home. BECAUSE of Gov. Palin we will regroup and go on.

The McCain campaign staff had to be very unorganized and unprofessional. Why put Gov. Palin with Charley Gibson rather that Sean Hannity?

Why always have McCain at the Palin rallies? Why did McCain take off for Washington during the crash and then do nothing other than voting for the Bush plan? This could have been his big moment.

How could McCain have had 0bama on the ropes in three debates and the not close the deal when 0bama made some really indefensible things.

I worked at the local McCain HQ and the young folks that were in charge we not the least bit impressive not did they show and exceptional organizational skills.

Gov. Palin is getting the blame for the ineptness of the McCain staff.

Believe me, the McCain folks gave this one away.

Scheunemann was taking money from the Georgian government one year, and then advising McCain what to do about the Georgia-Russia conflict the next.

Did he press McCain to say we are all Georgians now?

I hope it's false that he's gotten to Palin.

"NOT from Romney people"

The facts don't support that idea. Kevin Madden and Kathleen Parker were the the source of the "Trooper Gate" nonsense.

It’s the McCain loyalists trying to suck back up to the MSM. Whores and cretins.

Couldn't have found a better way to say it, myself. Thanks.

"He was positioning himself with Palin at the expense of John McCain's campaign message," said one of the aides.

Now there's one principled conservative Republican who knows the score.

In three short years McCain will be on a book tour with Joe Liebermann, while Sarah Palin will be kicking @ss on a Presidential primary along with this visionary aide.

Does Carl Cameron have any first hand knowledge that Gov. did not know Africa was a continent rather than a country?

Carl, you blew this one big time. That was a big lie by some staffer who was disappointed and pissed off, looking to blame someone for disastrous staff work.

As I watched the campaign, and for the life of me could not see a master plan for winning. IT JUST DID NOT EXIST.

Sarah Palin was the high point of this entire election PERIOD.

McCain’s barebones campaign absorbed a lot of Romney staff after the primaries. Not long after that lots of negative rumors and leaks started coming out of the McCain campaign about every potential VP pick — except for Romney — who supposedly was on the verge of being picked, according to McCain campaign ‘insiders’.

Then when Sarah Palin was picked, lots of leaks started coming out that undermined her... remember the one about her speech being written by a Bush speechwriter?

The rumors and leaks continued, and got worse, culminating in what Fox News has been reporting all day. Interesting how all of this stuff seems to be directed at whomever is a biggest obstacle to Romney’s aspirations at the time?

"If I recall, McCain's message was roll over and play dead."

Lol, pretty much so. Was he ever NOT a political corpse of a Presidential candidate?

D@mn - McCain (aka Dole II) LOST to a MARXIST!!

It was Sarah Palin who ALMOST recessitated his dead and dying snooze-a-thon of a campaign.

“So what exactly was John McCain’s campaign message, anyway?”

The PATHWAY TO CONCESSION seems to be all he was running on. Payback for the GOP picking Bush in 2000 as his actions since have demonstrated.

Let’s face it. Nobody likes to lose. When you spend months on the campaign trail and see everything come to naught, you are expected to feel devastated. People say a lot of things out of frustration and anger over the loss. Because it is supposedly gauche to attack the winner (Obama) one is left to his or her own campaign. Reporters are all jackals. They want all the ‘dirt’ and they know when anybody is most vulnerable. So they ask leading questions; some people in the depths of despair oblige and begin to tell tales out of school, but are still rational enough to know that is not what caused them to lose the election. But of course the reporter links up the criticism with the narrative they want to air and thus something like this is broadcast: Sarah Palin’s lack of preparedness for interviews with Gibson and Couric caused the defeat of John McCain, never of course blaming the staff for scheduling interviews with the MSM when she was not ready or refuse to cite their lapse of judgment of not having her appear on right-wing talk radio before any MSM interviews. I hear McCain was the cause of that.

2. Message...there was a message? What was it?

How right you are! There was plenty of talk about who Obama was, but there was very little talk of McCain's vision for America. McCain is a peacemaker, drawing points from both sides and conjuring up a solution. When this is your style, you have a hard time defining a vision.

I thought that McCain’s main message was that Obama was a fine family man with many accomplishments and Americans had nothing to fear from him as President.

That about covers it.
