How is this different than Susan Sarandon or Alec Baldwin saying they were leaving the country if a Republican won?My family's been on these shores since 1652 and my ancestors have shed their blood in every war the country's had to fight. None of them died to deliver this country to communists. What's more galling is that we weren't invaded by communists...we elected communists.
I'm not upset that a democrat won the White House. I'm not upset that a black man won The White House. I'm furious that this country decided to turn our great heritage and history over to marxists. I'm furious that my grandchildren will never know what it's like to grow up in the greatest country in the world. Because that country is gone...or will be gone shortly.

Texas was an independent if debt ridden country, recognized by foreign powers, for 10 years prior to annexation. California was only independent for two weeks.

Here's just a couple of reasons why I think it merits consideration:
1. We are not a Democracy, we are a Republic. We are individual states joined into a union by choice (although after the Civil War, the South rejoined the Union under threat of the bayonet). www.texassecede.com FAQs answers most of these questions, but this sums it up nicely for ALL states:
Likewise, each of the united States is united with the others explicitly on the principle that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed and whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends [i.e., protecting life, liberty, and property], it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government and when a long train of abuses and usurpations...evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
2. Texas has a proud heritage as an independent country, has voted Republican for the past 30 years and has a strong surplus in its present government. We have plenty of natural resources, a coast for easy export/import of goods, great Republican neighbors (except for New Mexico, dog-gone it!) The vast majority of Texans want a fence on its Mexican border, oppose abortion, support the 1st and 2nd amendments and believe in limited government. *We don't even have a state income tax!* Now, our property taxes are higher than some states, but not all (many liberal states have higher property taxes and income taxes and still operate with a deficit.) Our house is in order. In other words, the vast majority of Texans believe in and support similar governmental philosophies and ideology and even where we differ on issues, we tend to be centrist, not extreme on either end. Those notable exceptions in Austin notwithstanding, Texans come together when necessary working together to better Texas.
3. Federal government usurption of our rights, property, liberties as an independent state would be an offense worth fighting against. Such violations would include any of the following, all of which Obama has proposed:
a. Fairness Doctrine (restricting free speech) - Talk radio could base all its operations here!
b. Concealed Carry ban - We currently have a state law allowing carrying a concealed weapon, which Obama has promised to change with a federal ban on carrying concealed weapons.
c. Right to life - Obama supports the Freedom of Choice Act which will undo all advancements in the past 35 years of pro-life advocates to eliminate heinous acts against the unborn, such as partial birth abortion and the Born Alive Infant Protection act. Federal intervention in a states' right to determine what it chooses to allow regarding abortions is reprehensible, and yet Obama plans to proceed.
d. Bail-outs of failed liberal states - My greatest fear, which hasn't to my knowledge been mentioned, but I suspect will be proposed, is that Obama will steal money from solvent and prosperous states and give it to those that have been poorly run by liberals that are now cash-poor, thus spreading the wealth around the states. I believe this alone would be reason to support secession of Texas.
e. Dismantling the military - Our fine men and women deserve support. Texas' budget could support a self-maintained military to protect its borders. Obama wants to dismantle the military, but I say, let's make sure terrorists NEVER attack a Texas city by protecting our Republic with a sound, solid military.
f. Lower taxes for businesses - Imagine the number of businesses that would flock to the Republic of Texas, with its lower personal taxes, and reduced corporate taxes under an Obama administration. Companies wouldn't have to leave the country to find tax relief, small businesses could find a more favorable tax structure in our wonderful state and we have LOTS of land to build and grow new metropolitan areas. Hundreds upon hundreds of small towns already have the infrastructure, and could support new corporate headquarters from all over the country. We'd be so rich!
g. Best reason of all - Obama couldn't touch us, tell us how to run our state, our families, our schools or our lives.
And, with apologies to Sen. McCain, Country has NEVER been first to me. It's GOD first, Family second, Others Third. And, in Texas, we have everything we need to create a country that would respect each INDIVIDUAL's right to make those choices for themselves. When my government starts to take money my family earns to kill babies (BAIPA), or support criminals (ACORN), or take my property without my consent (401k), I say it's time to stand against the usurpers and fight!

LoL
Screw that cycle. Look where it lead us to.. Its been a downward spiral for DECADES. now we are at the point of having a radical marxist as President! as well as having the other 2 branches controlled by marxists.
Sorry.. You can have this sh_t. We need to start again somewhere else and Texas sounds like a great place. I grew up there and have been itching to go back.

I have no argument there. But the economy came back, as did the military.
The point I'm making is that though the next four years may be pretty bad, all that will do is make conservative ideals all the more popular, leading up to voting in a REAL conservative.
Liberals had their slogans for the past 8 years: NO BLOOD FOR OIL / BUSH LIED, PEOPLE DIED / etc. Similarly, I'll have my slogan:
Just remember: you need a Jimmy to get a Ronald.
Keep fighting.

Yep...that’s what I told my husband last night...at least we are in a state with some THINKING PEOPLE!! People here are also really about their guns...past really tight gun control...Okies are ready to lead by leaving. It sounds strange to me as well...but there is a lot of talk about it. Many who are already to fight for it as well.
Glad to be in an ANTI-OBAMA STATE!!!!

It just occurred to me that if we told the Californians that if they left the union they could have gay marriage, free everything for everyone, and set whatever policies they wanted on whatever they wanted, they might actually leave on their own.

I lived in Oklahoma for a short time and I’ve always been fond of it. My husband’s family is from Texas/Oklahoma area. We like the “Pan-annle” area.

I do understand how this country was designed. The states are at-will members of the Union.
The Federal Govt. has limited rights given to it by the Constitution. The Govt. has expanded those rights. It has broken it’s contract. We have a right to seperate.
I do NOT want a strong Federal Govt. I want 50 strong states and a distant, uninvolved Federal Govt, as it was intended.

Not seeing a problem with that. I am on another forum that serves the central US, but because it’s cheaper, has the servers hosted in Britain.
