OLYMPIA, Wash. Voters approved Initiative 1000 on Tuesday, making Washington the second state to give terminally ill people the option of medically assisted suicide.
The ballot measure, patterned after Oregon's "Death with Dignity" law, allows a terminally ill person to be prescribed lethal medication, which would be self-administered.
With about 43 percent of the expected vote counted Tuesday in unofficial returns, I-1000 was being approved by a margin of about 58 percent to about 42 percent.
Supporters, led publicly by Democratic former Gov. Booth Gardner, said the initiative would provide a compassionate way for terminally ill people to die.

I actually was surprised that the voters passed this. But what the heck the whole night was full of surprises. I honestly thought I would wake up today to find out that Rossi was our governor. The liberals have such a stranglehold on this state I don’t know if we can ever break free.
Purportedly offs himself, you mean. At least for now. In days to come the doctor will drop the pretence and just go ahead and kill him.
Cordially,
Amen. I’ve been a lurker for many years but last night and today takes me over the top. I’d rather donate to Free Republic than to the local ‘charities’ that claim to value life but support pro-abortion and other pro-death policies.
Their ‘death with dignity’ really means that your life is only useful when it serves their ends.
You are exactly right, and it is only a matter of time before the "right" to die becomes a "duty" to die.
Welcome to FR.
I will add Washington to my ever-growing list of western states I never plan to visit again. Along with Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico and Montana.
There’s always Idaho, though. Or Utah.
Make it readily available in colleges statewide...start with Evergreen State.
HOWEVER
Having someone help you kill yourself is just asking for all sorts of stupid situations. Can you imagine all the dumb circumstances this is going to create:
Deciding at last minute not to kill yourself, but talked into anyway
Having someone decide you are to chicken to kill yourself and they help you anyway against your objection.
Handicaps, Retards, Old timers, all are going to be persuaded to kill themselves ... or helped without being persuaded ...
[insert stupid scenario here] etc ...
Talk about a stupid initiative.
If you cant commit suicide on your own, you have lost your right to do it.
St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
Thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen

Exactly. And make them feel guilty if they don’t go along with the Plan.
This is absolutely wrong. Not only should doctors NOT assist suicide, they should warn their patients about what can kill them.
It is a moral duty.
