Prolific novelist and "ER" creator Michael Crichton has passed away. He was 66.
Perhaps best known for being the author of Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World, which were turned into a hugely successful movie franchise, his numerous books have sold over 150 million copies worldwide.
In what his family calls an unexpected death, it was revealed that he was waging a private battle against cancer.
It’s one of my favorites.
Exactly, if I hadn’t read the book I never would have had a clue what was going on. Medieval European history has always been my favorite subject and it was obvious from the movie that the director didn’t have a clue what the Hundred Years War was and that it was a focal point of the story.
Oh! How could I have forgotten!? Definitely the close second to, “Sphere” : \
What a loss....
-—GTR was my favorite—I re-read it every year or so—
The Great Train Robbery was an incredible book and the movie actually follows it fairly well.
This is very sad news. He is one of my favorite authors. I always thought it would be neat to listen to him give a talk somewhere and then be able to ask him about his research and writing. He was a brilliant and compelling writer.
Rest in peace Michael Crichton. God Bless and keep you.
God Bless and comfort your dear family and friends.
Very sad news.
RIP.
I thought Jurassic Park was entertaining, but Andromeda Strain was indeed a masterpiece. I couldn’t stomach the movie they did eariler this year.
I loved every one of his books that I’ve read.
Even “Airframe”, which appeared to be daunting, given the subject matter.
Read “State of Fear” last year.
Read “Next” this summer.
I read “The Andromeda Strain” at age 8 in 1973.
He’s been one of my favorites, ever since.
He will be missed.
This is awful. I love his books. I tell everyone to read “State of Fear”, and read his transcripts of lectures and his papers.
So sad to see a good one go!
Strange. He was too young, especially considerning he seemed always to live a charmed life. Brilliant, imaginative, great writer, wealthy, successful, great lust for life, world-famous, world-traveler... a little odd, IMO.
Terrible news. He was a great writer of popular science and fiction. Hopefully his speeches on the environmentalist crapola and pseudoscience will stay available on the web.
As if we didn’t have enough to be depressed about...
Prayers to his family and friends.
He must look like I feel.
It's kind of weird, though. Me and one of my friends were just talking the other day and wondering when he'd come out with a new book. Apparently, he'd been ill for a while and had stopped writing. Very sad.
That’s sad. I have all of his books, and have enjoyed the movies that were made, as well.
He will be missed.
Dude, do you really think that's an appropriate comment on this thread?
“In what his family calls an unexpected death, it was revealed that he was waging a private battle against cancer.”
I had heard sometime back he had terminal cancer so ‘unexpected’?
And what has happened to Teddy?
