Proposition 8, which would establish marriage as a union between a man and a woman, passed with 52.1% of the vote, against 47.9% opposed, with 94.6% of precincts reporting. The approval marks a stunning upset in a $70 million campaign that just weeks ago looked to be running in favor of preserving gay marriage rights. The passage of Prop 8, as it is known, would be a major victory for religious conservatives seeking to ban gay marriage in other states, and a crippling setback for the gay rights movement nationwide.

Oh, some judge will come along and rule it “unconstitutional” - never mind that it’s part of the Cali constitution.
this election only showed how schizophrenic Californians are. voted in conservative values and added it to the state constitution, then voted in a bunch of liberal dems?
wow
"da ya think??"
Some judge will try.
They lost due to the hate and intolerance of the gay community. How could they have been so bigoted as to leave off of the proposal legal polygamy for Mormons and Muslims, and legal group marriage for hippie communes?
It doesn’t matter. We’ve passed other versions of this bill and it changed nothing. The Left will never let it go. Obama will put enough Commie judges on the Supreme Court to make it happen.

And somewhat ironically, you can thank the Black and Latino vote. Not all Obama supporters share his (albeit hidden) beliefs. There is one in my office.
then please have him make THIS his first issue.
pretty please so it can be the equal of bill clintons first 100 days.
He can only attack it via Full Faith and Credit.
no other way.
tax law, immigration law, interstate commerce.
Blacks and Latinos, while favoring Obama, also heavily favor traditional marriage.
Glad the good guys won, but the results are a lot less impressive than the last proposition on SSM there.

Somehow I think the 0bama administration will not be fag-friendly.
It won’t be too Jew friendly, either.
The gay community bit off more than they could chew when they decided to sue for marriage.
California was a pioneer in granting rights to homosexual couples, with landmark domestic partner legislation, originally passed in 1996. And that legislation was not very controversial in California. The possibility of same-sex marriage in Calif. was controversial but not the legal concept of same-sex partnerships.
The gays over reached in my opinion. Not content with the legal rights they gained in Calif. and some other states, they decided to go to war and sue for marriage.
Well, in the year 2000, only 4 states banned same-sex marriage in their constitutions. Now, in the past eight years, 30 states have passed such bans. The key reason a majority of states now have these amendments is as a reaction to the gay desire to sue to overturn existing marriage laws.
I agree that while it is somewhat heartening to see that majorities still support traditional marriage our new federal rulers will take action to set all this aside. Hussein has said he will sign off on the “Freedom of Choice Act” which will make abortion on demand at any time for any reason the law of the land thus overriding state limits on partial birth abortion and parental notification. There is no reason to assume that the leftists will not undertake something similar in regards to creating a “right” for the sexually dysfunctional to “marry” by enaction of federal legislation.
Does this mean that Ellen DeGeneres’ marriage is now null and void?
No, I darn well know what’s going on but it shows when Americans get fed up and pushed to the brink they can accomplish anything. I know we are in for rough times, but if the rough times bring this country back to Godly, moral and conservatives values and changes...a shake up if you will, then who am I to complain!? Give it some time...you’ll see!
They seem to always do that. It's part of their culture..
But great news on Prop 8. Thanks Californians!!
Not so stunning as you would think. CA voted against gay marriage before and had it overturned by state supremes, this time it is part of the constitution of CA and will be almost impossible to get rid of. We will see what happens.
