Chamblis had a comfortable lead when I went to bed. Now, the numbers show he's dropped below 50%, which would trigger a run-off election. Looks like the big metro Atlanta counties held back (or manufactured) enough returns to erase Saxby's big lead of last night.

If the percentages hold, you can bet the Dems will pour beaucoup bucks into GA over the next 30 days to make sure lyin' Jim Martin ("Saxby will add a 23% sales tax to everything you buy")takes this seat.

Bummer.

So in GA a candidate for the Senate not only must get the most votes but must get at least 50.0000001% of the vote? What kind of Barbara Streisand is that?????

The block vote will not turn out for Martin. This will be the same thing that happened in 1992 against Wyche Fowler.

For those of us outside of Georgia, can you give more details? I, for one, am very interested in this race and would appreciate your insight as a local.

Fill us in on this. I once lived in Atlanta, but out of touch with politics there now.

(Actually, I HAVE watched the total destruction of the newspaper there.)

So who is this Buckley person? Any help from there for the right price?

Republican need to turn this into a national effort, soliciting help from everywhere. There are still people out here who would go to Atlanta for a few days to help make this happen.

The big urban vote from Atlanta comes in last as in most states. It all went against Chambliss plus some conservatives were upset over his vote for the bailout. If a runoff is required he will be a big favorite.

That would be nice, but your numbers are not the most recent ones posted on the GA Secretary of State's tally.

Buckley's a Libertarian. I suppose a few hits on the bong might generate some support.

I think the big rat counties are 100% in now. He won’t need much to get back to 50.

Exactly, and that was a huge win for Coverdell and the GOP. It gave us hope after the Clinton wipeout.

Damn.

Are they so stupid inside the perimeter that they believe the sales tax lie?

I guess that is why I am in North GA now.

This is glorious! I was so ticked last night that Chamblis wasn’t heading to a runoff. I cast my vote for the lib. to uphold a promise I made to Saxby back when he stated: “let me educate you on immigration”... I was considering going back on my promise, but then Saxby ignored the voices of constituants state-wide when he signed on to Bush’s bail out bill.

Saxby is one of the biggest Bush kool-aid lackey’s in the senate.

I hope that this does go to run-off. He needs to receive this message loud and clear.

Oh, and for all of you other conservatives across the country railing against GA for not voting Saxby back in, get off your high horses. ‘NIMBY’ is what Saxby is facing right now. He can take his blind Bush worship with him somewhere else, but NOT IN MY BACK YARD.

Looks like 60 DEM seats is out of reach anyway, so I might just get some popcorn instead of voting for Saxby Dec 2nd. The GOP fear machine isn’t enough to persuade me. Sometimes people just need to find something else to do with their lives outside of politics.

I’m not a local, I just remember the election. It looks as though Smith, Coleman and Stevens are returning as well.

Right now Chambliss is showing 50.2% so it may be academic. Even so, without the draw of the presidential election the runoff shouldn’t attract a fraction of the voters that turned out yesterday. Chambliss should win that handily.

If this goes to runoff, 0bama will be down there... but I suspect Chambliss will be begging Palin to make appearances as well.

In a word: "Yes".

They ran the same lyin' ads against two fine black conservatives and wiped them out.
