If he has to resign his seat, as governor she would be allowed to appoint herself as his successor! Not any more. After Murkowsky(sp?) appointed his daughter, Alaska changed the law. Now there's a special election for vacant Senate seats. (but she could always run)

The more I learn about AK the more I like it. Here in WV the scuttlebutt is that when the Bob Byrd goes to that flaming cross in heaven (more likely that the flaming cross will be in the other place for him), Gov. Joe Manchin will appoint himself to fill the Grand Dragon's place in the Senate.
