The GOP also increased its majority in the state House where the party gained control four years ago.
The 48-member Senate has been evenly divided with 24 Republicans and 24 Democrats the past two years.
Republicans in the Senate won two seats that were held by Democrats although Republican Jim Reynolds was trailing in his race against Democrat David Boren - who is not related to the University of Oklahoma president.
If Reynolds wins - the GOP will hold a 26-22 majority and it will be 25-23 Republican if Reynolds loses.
In the key races Republican Jim Halligan won the seat held by term-limited Democrat Mike Morgan and Democrat Nancy Riley was defeated for re-election by Republican Dan Newberry.
Hooray, Nancy Riley lost.
House is 50-49 I think. Watch out for RINO(S).

I’m a member of that club also. I don’t feel like correcting the 100s of “yay my state is red” posts right now though.
I agree too much religiosity is a turn-off in the north, but in the south evangelicals are a great help to the GOP.

And you think you can win without the center-right? So look at our party - we’re already going after each other’s throats. Your stance is one of anybody that’s not with us lock step is a traitor. You think that’s how it works in the world? It’s about give and take. Your attitude is all about you/your own definition. However, sorry to tell you there are a lot of us proud Republicans that are open/have been open to working with the far right. Now when Sarah gets beat up a little by a select few of the center-right you go and lump us as the enemy? Give me a break. If there’s anyone that has some soul-searching to do it’s the far right on whether they want to be part of a unified party or go off and form their own.

Actually, no county in Oklahoma went for Obama. The closest was Cherokee County, and Obama was still 12 points back.
Where did you get that information? I got an email from our local Republican party saying Oklahoma was the only state in the US that went solid red...every county voted for McCain. Here’s the USA Today map:

I don’t know where you got that information, but I would *never* use that source again.
Oklahoma is the only state in the United States that *all* of its counties went for the Republican Ticket. And in addition to that, it’s the only state in the United States (which went to the Republicans) — which has the *highest percentage* of voters voting for the Republicans. No other state surpasses Oklahoma’s near 66% for the Republican ticket.
Now, it seems that the national GOP should be taking notes from Oklahoma and figure out how to do this in other states....
Coming from Oregon (was there for many years), it’s a different culture here — and yes..., I would call it conservative. That doesn’t mean that everyone is conservative (as you can see that some did vote for Obama), but it’s the *highest* in any state, for conservatives.
