After a heated, divisive campaign, fueled by a record $73 million of spending, California voters Tuesday were backing Prop. 8, which would change the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.
Six months after the California Supreme Court cleared the way for gay and lesbian couples to legally wed, the estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who took advantage of the landmark decision now are wondering if they will be the last.

How long ‘till it gets tossed?
That is good news. I needed some.
Yes, it is schizophrenic. But then, only a lunatic would vote for Obama in the first place.
Blacks and Latins are notoriously anti Gay, they pulled the Lever for the new pResident, and for a ban on gay marriage.
63% of San Francisco has reported will deliver a net of around 150K votes to no on 8.
only 8% of Orange County has reported—will deliver over 800K net votes to yes on 8.
Prop 8 will pass!!!
A lot of the African-American guys that I work with said that while they’re voting for Obama, they’re also against gay marriage.
One guy said it best: “It just ain’t right!”
Thank God and thank you fellow Californian’s for all your great efforts and votes - the radio & TV ads were very well done and I’ve been honking & waving at you on corners & driving under overpasses on my way to work - so encouraged to see.
Rock ON!
Knowing that the smaller, less populated, and more conservative districts will report first, that is not comforting news.
I think people wanted some kind of “change,” thought 0bama was a moderate, and habitually vote Dem. The media completely hid 0’s radical past.
Correct.
Note that "n" would stand for "naughty"...
I know how you feel :o).
So what? Glorious Leader Obama the First and his lackies in the Congress will ram through (no pun intended) a federal sodomy protection law soon enough.
It doesn't surprise me. Since many voters were either Latino (illegal and legal) and blacks, homosexuality is disgusting to them (and rightfully so), but socialism/communism is fine and dandy.
My county voted correctly:
PROPOSITION 8
YES . . . . . . . . . . . . 11,166 64.15
NO. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6,240 35.85
Total . . . . . . . . . 17,406
No, it only points to the abject ignorance of the average voter. They vote FOR a proposition that will be struck down by the judges appointed by the president & congress they ALSO voted for. They are too ill-informed, or worse, don’t care about what obama & their legislators stand for, they treated this vote mostly as a popularity contest.
That’s what passing prop 8 but voting for obama means.
The battle is not over, any more than there will be peace in the middle east.
A war only needs one party. Evil people only know war, you cannot make peace with them.
