Republican Duncan D. Hunter is on a path to succeed his father as the representative in East County's 52nd Congressional District, according to early returns.
In the county's other close House contest, Republican Brian Bilbray appears to be holding off Democratic challenger Nick Leibham, who ran a well-funded and spirited campaign in the largely North County 50th district.
Voters appear to be returning the county's other three representatives to office.
They are Democrat Susan Davis, whose 53rd district is concentrated in San Diego; Democrat Bob Filner of the 51st, which takes in South Bay and Imperial County; and Republican Darrell Issa of the 49th, which spreads from North County to southwestern Riverside County.
Hunter, a Marine Corps Reserve captain, was challenged by Democrat Mike Lumpkin, a retired Navy SEAL commander, for the seat being vacated by the elder Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, who is retiring from Congress after 14 terms.

Night turned out pretty much like we thought. Looks like D2 is gonna win
I totally forgot, Did West win in Florida????
Good for him. :)
Congrats to you, Duncan Duane, and all of Hunter’s Rangers on that.
I think he got spanked
Good deal.
I hate the idea of “family positions”. reminds me of the Stroger family in Cook county,
There are very few bright spots, so we gotta take em. Any word on Michelle the hottie Bachmann?
I hate retards too.
Indeed. Hopefully, we’ll take these lemons and make lemonade.
Sounds like she’s holding her own from what I’ve seen. That would be another bright spot for sure.
Haha. I was having a brain fart when I saw “Hunter” and visulized some guy in orange hunting down the candidates! I sure do miss San Diego. I don’t recognize any of the people in office there, since I left in 1986...
That’s my district! Hunter was an expected easy win, sure glad I am still represented in congress by someone who truly represents me. More then ever now.
The road ahead is going to be very tough.
I liked Duncan Hunter. He was my candidate.
He made me go back to work one Saturday night at Guantanamo to get him the detainee menu.
What a gracious individual.
Glad there’s still a HUNTER ON THE WATCH....Congrats D2!
Congratulations to the Hunter family, and thanks to Rep. Duncan Hunter for his many years of service to our country.
This is truly the bright spot of the night.
Duncan D will attain the age of 35 in 2012.
Eligible for the office of President...
One more time for the RINOs...here’s what a REAL conservative looks like:

Thanks for posting this, Pissant. I checked back in just to see how this one came out.
A bright spot in a distressing day.
That SEAL guy seemed to have money for ads, and his arrogance came through in them.
I was a little annoyed to hear him call Duncan Hunter the son “the Congressman’s boy”, the younger Hunter is far past the point of still being addressed as some one’s boy in that context, especially when seconds before, the democrat had identified that he himself, was an officer that had served in the current wars that Marine officer Duncan Hunter had served.
