They only won one state in 1984. We have at least 20 good Republican states that didn't buy into Obama. There is still a lot of friendly conservative territory. Move to a red state if you are not already in one. It will make you feel better.
God still reigns. The sun will still rise tomorrow. Politics is mostly potpourri.
We are the ones who got to be part of the Reagan Revolution. What a wonderful time that was for the country. We can get back there.
Sometimes taking losses is necessary. Conservatism became watered down over the past decade. We now have a chance to rinse ourselves of the Republican losers and get back to the message of Reaganism. I believe Sarah Palin has started the process.
In the meantime, we have work to do during these four years. Conservatives are going to be persecuted in ways that we have never experienced, both by the media, and possibly by the government itself. They will attempt to disarm us and silence us. We will have to resist. If it gets out of hand, we may have to secede. I have mentioned this before.
Assuming we are able to preserve our rights to elections, conservatives will probably make gains in 2010. Obama is going to have a heck of a time managing the liberals in congress. The pull left may be dramatic and could cause a backlash. Sadly, the economy is going to tank for a time. For this reason, it is probably fortunate that Obama will be it's steward rather than a Republican.
In 2012 we can hope that the country regrets Obama and the leftward lurch, and that we run a principled conservative, and can enjoy a new revolution.
(Rembember, too...we won the most important election of the last generation...2004. It allowed us to win the Iraq War without having to surrender. It made our country safer long term.)
Who care how the Dems felt in 1984...
Obama will have destroyed this country in four years. Can you imagine his cabinet? The libs own Congress and in two months, the White House.
I have thought of one good thing that would benefit those of us here in Arizona land - it’s that Gov. Napolitano might take a cabinet position with Obama and leave us to anybody who would be a better Governor than her!
Good post. We’ll survive and, while the next 4 years will sting a bit, we’ll come back put things right. Giving up is not an option.
Too late. There's about a million already, mostly suicidal.
I'm inclined to get a good night's sleep -- we have lots of hard work ahead of us.
I’ll just chime in on yours rather than start one of my own ;-)
You make some very telling points. I just had to get off the Live thread, as people were getting pretty doggone SNIPPY!
Things will go on - they always have. And there’s nothing more motivating than the agony of defeat ;-) I mind losing the election a lot less than I mind seeing fellow FReepers tearing each other apart over things we had no ability to control and where WE are not the enemy.
It’s a good time to do a bit of soul searching perhaps. One thing I’m convinced of, is had it not been for this election we would not have Sarah Palin on the national stage and I feel that in itself is a tremendous win.
We have much to be thankful for. Everyone get some rest and maintain PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)!!
Thanks for making me laugh. Not sure that was your intent.
I lived in a red state. Well, maybe fuschia. Ohio.
Thanks Bob Taft.
Thing is, Ken Blackwell really is a good guy. Because of Bob Taft, we got Jennifer Brunner instead.
Have to stay in Ohio to get her out.
Did Reagan call for redistribution of wealth? Did Reagan call for a cease to production of all semi-automatic firearms to citizens? Did Reagan want to add a trillion dollars to spending? Did Reagan want to socialize health care? Did Reagan freely associate with known terrorists?
The difference is, Reagan wasn’t a fundamental threat to the fabric of America. He was good for America; Obama will be our worst president.
We will have to fight back, but we won’t be able to do it in the halls of congress or the courts.
My feelings can best be stated from this scene from
Animal House.
D-Day: War’s over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he’s rolling.
Bluto: And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough...
[thinks hard]
Bluto: the tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go!
[runs out, alone; then returns]
Bluto: What the heck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you’re gonna let it be the worst. “Ooh, we’re afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble.” Well just kiss my *%^& from now on! Not me! I’m not gonna take this. Wormer, he’s a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...
Otter: Dead! Bluto’s right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part.
Bluto: We’re just the guys to do it.
D-Day: Let’s do it.
Bluto: *Lets do it*!
They win big. They loose opposition.
However the vacuum will be replaced by paranoia. I hope they tear themselves to pieces.
We lost tonight. But in football, every good team gets beat once in a while. This wasn't our year...but in two years - it will be like 1994 for us all over again.
Not relevant. I do not believe the nation can survive an obama win.
Obama is not Clinton folks. He is 100 xs worse. Folks say, "it can never happen here" are just fooling themselves. It has! Flame on.......we probably won't be able to use FR for much longer anyway.
so much for the PUMAs and the Bradley effect— can’t count the “McCain is a sure winner” threads— time to get serious and start looking for another Reagan type of conservative to get this country out of the whole these leftwing radicals who just got elected are going to put us in
Great! Now, let’s go do a number on their stupid parade.
Clinton ? I’m sorry, but this pig makes Clinton look like George Washington. This isn’t football, this isn’t sports, that’s just a damn game. This is our country and it’s for keeps. People are going to needlessly die as a result of this coup d’etat. Something has got to be done to stop this insanity.
Clinton had a Democrat controlled congress when he was elected in 92, and they became so frightening in 94 the Republicans took control of the house.
