I have to disagree with you. The poll worker did what I would expect them to: not on the roll, then you don't vote until it's cleared up.

I saw a couple of cases of this in Boston today while voting. I was glad someone was paying attention.

PS: If Mr. Robbins has the 'time and luxury', then he should start to 'spread the wealth' by giving all those poor 'disenfranchised' voters $200 for their troubles.

But then again, didn't he and the misses raise holy hell about plans to put a low income clinic or night shelter in their neighborhood?

Technically, you DO vote first, then it is cleared up. They give you a provisional ballot. The provisional ballots are reviewed at the registrars office, where they determine whether or not to allow it. Voters can call in or check on-line a week or so later and see if their vote counted.
