Shameless Pathetic Vanity! DO WE REALLY HAVE A CHANCE?
11/03/08 | me

Posted on 11/03/2008 3:35:19 PM PST by dormee

I'm making myself sick with worry. I can't drag myself away from FR, can't get anything done and am worried beyond belief! Do you all honestly think we will pull this out? The thought of Obama winning scares the daylights out of me! I know I should ignore the polls but they are weighing me down. I will hit my knees at 9:00 p.m. and pray to our God that we don't get what we really deserve.

Obama probably has this one in the bag.

Too close to call, unless one is a devoted "alphabet outlet watcher" and is convinced otherwise.

Keep in mind that one of the tricks the pollsters have been using in VA is to cut the independents down by a huge amount from where they were in 2004 and 2006. That may account for some of the problem.

Right. And this is a dirty trick because the Independents in VA are much more conservative than the national average.

I think when Reagan ran against Carter the polls had it tied the day before.

The results were something like Reagan 510 EV’s and Carter 15

In all the polls for the presidential elections that picked the wrong person as the winner they never favored the republican. The polls ALWAYS pick the democrat to win by oversampling dems or just making the results up.

I think should we lose we only have one choice left to save the republic.

Do we have a chance? Yes. There is intensity from McCain/Palin - hopefully due to their internal polling and word from the GOTV efforts being in place. Don’t totally discount the polls - they are showing some movement to Mac overall, and the markets seem to have stabilized. The economy is off the front page for now. Coalgate may swing PA our way and if it does (won’t know until very very late) put a smile on. If Obama had all this base enthusiasm, then why do the early voting numbers show it to be a close race? Face it, you are among the faithful and yes, we could be wrong.

My advice - stay away from the TV, camp out on the LIVE THREAD tomorrow, and watch the returns here. Let the TV watching go to those with stronger constitutions. Keep the refresh button closeby as the posts will be flying - the time it takes to add your own comment will put you down about 200-300 posts. But first and foremost - get your tail out there and VOTE. Take friends and family with you.

I certainly didn’t intend to imply passivity with the expression “just take it like a Christian.” No, I was thinking more of putting on the armor of God, and shedding light into the shadows.

Onward, Christian soldiers!

This case appears to be more severe than that.

You have been demoralized by the polls because you have let yourself believe they are a reflection of the truth.

They are not.

They are all over the place with their percentages. The huge percentage of undecideds are not undecided.

They are just not saying they are McCain voters.

My wife and I visited Australia in 1979. While there, we saw some disturbing local newspaper headlines about the U.S. being on the brink of war. It was total nonsense but we bought into for a short time and it affected our mood.

The only poll that counts is tomorrow and we, the American voters, determine who wins.

I’m out right now and will check later, but R doesn’t publish ratios for state polls iirc, just the breakdowns of which group voted which. I can extrapolate to 2000/2004/2006 models, and compare to the overall result, which is usually 7% higher than how he actually polls. AFAIK he just applies the same 7% Dem sauce on the top of all his polls.

Of course we have a chance. I am sure of a few things.

First, my wife and I will vote for McCain and Palin in the morning (even though it will just increase a certain majority in Texas).

Second, many people are very worried about what an Obama administration would mean for our country, lots of them have already voted, and many more will vote tomorrow.

Third, contrary to continuing silliness in the MSM, McCain and Palin do not have to “run the table” of closely contested states to win the election. At this point, they can win with (1) VA, (2) CO, and (3) either (i) NV, or (ii) NM, or (iii) NH, or (iv) 1 electoral vote from Maine. Even if they lose CO, they can win with VA and any two of (i) NM, (ii) NV, and (iii) NH plus one from Maine. If they can win PA, then they need only one of the following states: NV, NM, NH, or CO. Admittedly, I have assumed that McCain and Palin will win IN, OH, NC, and FL (I think that is a reasonable assumption, but it may be less than highly probable).

Fourth, I would rather have an uphill climb and God on my side than an easy path without God on my side (but of course, I can only pray that what I do is God’s will).

Finally, I strongly disagree that an Obama loss would be better than what this nation deserves. The United States, the sacrifices of its past citizens, and the future of its current citizens and yet unborn citizens deserve much more than Obama (probably deserve more than McCain, but that is for another day).

Depending on how tomorrow goes my answer may become “all of the above”.
