Chatting grannies are 'noisy nuisance'
'Anti-social' ... pensioner sits on a bench
PENSIONERS have been told the benches they sit at to have a cup of tea and a chat will be removed because their behaviour is anti-social.
The group of seven, one of them aged 96, have been accused of noise nuisance and disturbing nearby residents.
Bosses of flats they gather outside say they have had complaints for two years and may take their benches away.
But the group, who meet daily for a gossip, are appalled at being labelled Asbo OAPs.
Lager
Former NHS secretary Ann Reddy, 69, who is recovering from a stroke and has arthritis, said: Its unbelievable. How could we be capable of anti-social behaviour?
We dont drink and sit throwing cans of lager around or sing in the middle of the night.
Great-gran Rose Anderson, 96, added: If I couldnt meet my friends and had to sit in my flat all day I would go mad.
But Julie Schoon of Broomleigh Housing Association in Mottingham, South London, said: As a landlord we have to ensure complaints are acted upon.
The row comes after a Help The Aged report showed millions of over-65s feel lonely and would benefit from getting out to meet others.

She added: "We just love sitting outside in the fresh air enjoying each other's company and talking quietly about our families, the weather, and the cost of living."But someone has complained and said we are making too much noise."
Her friend, 96-year-old Rose Anderson, a great-grandmother of nine great, said she would "go mad" if forced to sit in her flat all day by herself.
She said: "I'm so old now and I have got nothing else to do with my day.
"We all deserve to be treated with a lot more respect than this."
Well fight them on the benches, say noisy pensioners - Times Online
Neighbours complained of noise and nuisance and the local housing association proposed to disperse the gang by removing the benches. In response, the alleged troublemakers have pointed out that they are all pensioners, that they are mostly teetotal, and that their long conversations about the Blitz could not possibly amount to antisocial behaviour.

Undoubtedly reminiscing about the good old days before socialism, unchecked immigration, and political correctness. This disturbs the government apparatchiks and the local Yutes so they must be silenced.

Pensioners are treated like 2nd-class citizens in the UK. It makes me sad and sick. There’s your socialism for ya’! The ‘young’ are more important. I lost my FIL to the socialized medicine, there, because he was considered ‘too old’ to give a crap about. Couldn’t waste valuable resources on him. He was only a retired ‘working-class chap, bless his soul. That’s all he could afford.

If they were muslims - washing their feet in the public fountain & praying - there wouldn’t be a problem!
