Her friend, 96-year-old Rose Anderson, a great-grandmother of nine great, said she would "go mad" if forced to sit in her flat all day by herself.

She said: "I'm so old now and I have got nothing else to do with my day.

"We all deserve to be treated with a lot more respect than this."

Neighbours complained of noise and nuisance and the local housing association proposed to disperse the gang by removing the benches. In response, the alleged troublemakers have pointed out that they are all pensioners, that they are mostly teetotal, and that their long conversations about the Blitz could not possibly amount to antisocial behaviour.

A south-London housing association has been forced to ask old-age pensioners to keep quiet, after complaints from other residents.

 

Broomleigh Housing Association said there have been ‘numerous disagreements’ between the residents of the estate in Mottingham, south London, including complaints about the noise caused by the daily chit-chat from elderly people.

Pensioners are treated like 2nd-class citizens in the UK. It makes me sad and sick. There’s your socialism for ya’! The ‘young’ are more important. I lost my FIL to the socialized medicine, there, because he was considered ‘too old’ to give a crap about. Couldn’t waste valuable resources on him. He was only a retired ‘working-class chap, bless his soul. That’s all he could afford.
