A repeat of 2000?
Miami Herald ^ | November 3, 2008 | LIZ SIDOTI, AP

WASHINGTON -- It's a nightmare scenario for Democrats - their nominee Barack Obama winning the popular vote while Republican John McCain ekes out an Electoral College victory.

Sure, McCain trails in every recent national poll.

Sure, surveys show that Obama leads in the race to reach the requisite 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.

Sure, chances of Republicans retaining the White House are remote.

But some last-minute state polls show the GOP nominee closing the gap in key states - Republican turf of Virginia, Florida and Ohio among them, and Democratic-leaning Pennsylvania, too.

If the tightening polls are correct and undecided voters in those states break McCain's way - both big ifs - that could make for a repeat of the 2000 heartbreaker for Democrats that gave Republicans the White House.

....True, Democrats have been fired up all year.

True, Republicans haven't been.

True, Obama and McCain have been faring about even among independent voters.

But there are signs that the GOP's conservative base has rallied in the final stretch and these voters usually turn out in droves, even if lukewarm on the candidate.

And in an election year that's defied conventional wisdom time and again, anything can happen.

Wouldn’t it be great if “anything” happened?

If they're so gosh-darned remote, then what's the point of this article?

I HOPE that a heretofore silent majority slaps this commie nonsense down decisively, but I’ll take whatever we can get.

According to the liberal media their own states polls showing a dead heat are very much in doubt but on the other hand their own national polls showing Obama with a big lead is 100% correct.

The media knows poll sampling has been done to favor Obama voters.

Exactly.

The insanely biased polls have been the most important weapon by Obama and his media to try and win this elections by trying to depress the Republican based and prevent them from going to the real polls and vote.

It'll take a Herculean effort for McCain to win. I've seen something like that happen only once before. I saw it live back in '72.

Is McCain the next Dave Wottle? We can only hope.

Liz Sadoti is on of the AP’s biggest Democrat cheerleaders as you will see in articles she has written before. I think she is worried about her party losing.

LOL! It's not "closing the gap" when the pollsters remove the heavy democrat weighting....it's a crisis for hussein obama......butt covering 30 hours from D-Day is a more accurate description. GOTV!

Wow, I’m surprised. The miami herald has lost about a third of its workforce. Didn’t think they were putting out a noteable paper still.
Oh, that’s right, they aren’t.
What a p.o.s.

Assuming for a moment a McCain victory of appreciable margin, the word of mouth will rightfully become in macro as it is among conservatives in micro, that the MSM/DBM outlets are irretrievably beyond worthless as a direct consequence of their false-propaganda activism. (No bailout money for 'dem outlets!)

Such dino-media will deserve that every last reader and viewer cancel their subscription and turn their channel selectors elsewhere.

Better yet, the citizenry should just turn off their TVs and spend more time with loved ones, read noteworthy books instead, and engage in truly worthwhile pursuits.

Obama said either today or yesterday, “I will not concede without a fight.”

Count on a looooooong election night.

“spend more time with loved ones”.
Initially I thought this said “spend more time with family”. And I thought , are you nuts?
My mistake.

I sincerely hope for a non-repeat of 2000. I will gladly accept it if it means a McC victory, but IMO, the 2000 elections were very damaging to the national psyche. Americans like sports, football, baseball, etc; because there is a battle, there is a desision, and then it is over. The undermining of the electoral process from 2000 did nobody any good.
