Big Early Vote Leads for McCain in Florida
Political Machine ^ | Oct 31, 2008 | Mark Impomeni

Democrats are touting early leads in turnout for early voting in Florida. But a new poll that counts actual votes cast in the early balloting gives Sen. John McCain a four point lead among those who have already voted in the Sunshine State. The Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll of early voters shows McCain ahead 49-45%.Democrats outnumber Republicans by 54-30% in the party identification of early voters, according to figures released by the Democratic Party of Florida. Those numbers are not showing up in the voting this far.

More good news for McCain can be found in the the absentee vote tally. Republican registrants lead Democrats by a huge margin, 50-30%, in the over 1.2 million absentee ballots returned this far. Florida has a large active duty military population, many of whom vote by absentee ballot from stations overseas. That typically gives Republican candidates a large vote advantage in state wide elections.

Thanks

I live in Florida, close to the I-4 corridor.

My mother, 72, is a hard-core Democrat, but PUMA!
She voted McCain.

Sister, in her early 50s, soft democrat but PUMA also and voted McCain.

I voted early for Barr. No party affiliation.
My husband will vote for Barr. He’s a hard-core Libertarian.

The older Democrat voters, female, are giving McCain a boost. However, the younger ones aren’t. Florida doesn’t have a lot of younger voters who bother to vote, but they do have a lot of seniors, especially Reagan Democrats, evangelical Republicans, and female PUMAs.

how could there possibly be public knowledge about voting other than exit polling

Bingo!

I certainly wouldn't too excited about this----maybe by tomorrow night or Wednesday we'll have some bona fide numbers.

But the article says that FL early voting shows Mac with a four-point lead.

That was an poll with a 200 person sample. Early voting stats from favor Dems (not necessary Obama) by more than 7% over Republicans.

This result is consistent with data from the Southwest. Hispanics are not in the pocket of Obama. They love freedom and economic opportunity just like every other right thinking person! Viva McCain!!!

Not in this case.

Why talk about topics other than the article, broader, in order to refute the article?

Why did you vote Barr? He has no possibility to win, and your vote will help Obama.

Remember on Election Night, those of us in NW Florida are in the Central Time Zone and our polls don’t close until 7 PM, CENTRAL time and we vote Republican.

As much as I'd like to believe these "numbers" but to call them immutable is a stretch.

immutable = Can't be changed...maybe you mispoke. If you can change your vote after its cast, let me know what country you live in. Oh wait maybe that's Chicago

The Dems have been pushing for race riots in this country for years.

IMO, if we are going to have them, let it be now rather than later. This is a boil that must be lanced.

Of course, we need republicans that will stand up after the riots and point out how the Dems have deliberately fed the racial hatred. Not much chance of that, is there?

A quote fromt the article is below (My point was that this early poll might need to be taken with a grain of salt but that, for whatever reason, Republican voters tend to vote in larger numbers on election day than to Dems): http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20081029/BREAKINGNEWS/81029048/1006/news01

“A Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll gave McCain a 49-45 lead over Democrat Barack Obama among Floridians who have already voted.

And Republicans continued to show a traditional strength, leading 50 percent to the Democrats’ 30 percent in the 1.2 million absentee ballots already returned.

Conducted Oct. 25-27, the Los Angeles Times poll gave Obama a 50-47 lead overall in Florida. Only a tiny fraction of the Florida respondents reported voting early, leaving McCain’s lead subject to a wide margin of error. A Quinnipiac University poll, released Wednesday, showed early voters favoring Obama 58-34, another small sample with a potentially wide margin of error.”

The exit polls cited in this article are from last week - does anyone have any more recent early voting Florida exit polls, like from the last 24-48 hours?

Anyone watching MSDNC this morning would have heard the exact oppostie. In fact, Joe Scarborough quoted an unnamed RNC person from FL saying that “it is as good as over”. Joe finally made the leap to spouting off for the propagandists.....in spite of evidence to the contrary such as this.

The ole "Unnamed RNC source". Same sources that told us Romney was the VP pick, done deal! Man put down the remote and turn off MSNBC, you'll be stuck in Eeyore land right through the McCain inauguration if you keep watching them. Who gives a flying fig what they have to say.
