How does one have a write-in candidate on an electronic voting machine?

I think this was one of the reasons those machines were allowed

Can’t be. Princeton Universities Cyber Technology Department submitted reports to the state ELECs showing those machines can be hacked in under 8 minutes with the votes changed.
