Sorry, I think on both counts you'd be wrong. But only by about 25 years. 25 or more years ago, you'd have been spot on and I'd have no worries. But for all that time and more the liberals and their socialistic curriculums have dominated the schools across the country, both private and public. They have taught that armed citizens are automatically and forever at cross purposes with "civilized society." The fact that the indoctrination has been targeting the entire student population has the natural by product of also indoctrinating the armed forces and the civilian police as these professions are by necessity drawn from the same pool of possibilities. Everybody is in synch. The indoctrination is only weakened by proactive parenting which is fast disappearing from the scene.
My own prediction, though, is that if we truly accelerate our move towards socialism at home and pacifism abroad, we'll suffer one or more catastrophic attacks that will render much of the rest of this discussion moot.
I certainly hope I'm wrong about any bad things happening to America. But I can only describe what i see.
