See, this is what's wrong with Republicans and "nice guys" like McCain: they are all TOO HAPPY to help liberals make fun of themselves even when they're face-to-face with their lib mockers!
Is it really too much to ask that--when a Republican like McCain is on SNL--SNL exclusively makes fun of...oh, I dunno...Democrats and liberals?!
McCain's calculation seems to be that by coming on and being self-deprecating, he can show the world how comfortable he is with laughing at himself. But this is BS and disappoints me because shows like SNL already degrade anything and everything Republican by a ratio of about 99 to 1, so if a Republican does the show, they ought to demand an exclusivity of jokes at the Dems' expense, or else not do the show. I don't see at all what conceivable "help" Republicans could get by going on shows like SNL, seeing as how their audience demographics skew heavily towards young people (don't vote, not important) or committed libs anyway.

Lorne Michaels has donated to Republicans. I haven’t seen the sketches, but those who did say it was good.

I never understood the importance of Saturday Night Live and politics but then again, they’ve jumped the shark when they took off “The Coneheads” and “Mr. Bill.”

Frankly, it was embarrassing, nearly as bad as grovelling to a buck-toothed punk like Letterman, who despises McCain.

You are wrong. Many , many people tune into these SNL shows that never watch the show because of this election. The reviews showed that when Palin was on, the numbers for viewers were higher than anytiem since the 90’s!
Free PR and an ability to slightly reframe the campaign for Mccain : PRICELESS !

Did you see it?
He skewered Obama in the HSN skit.
Tina Fey let Plugs have it, too with the talking Biden doll that “talks for 45 minutes straight when you pull the string.”

The Coneheads had to go when Ackroyd and Curtain left the show. No one else could play the characters.
The cheeseburger and killer bee sketches also disappeared when Belushi died. Some characters are just irreplaceable.

I am not a McCain voter, but I think he did fine. The family laughed and said he did good. A Nader voter with us thought it was funny and showed him to have a friendly good humor.
When you go on those shows, they focus on your opponent more while you are there. It was fine.

I'm not a troll. Read my posts. Cut the shit.
I'm as conservative as anyone here, and I'm fully aware that Obama’s a pussy and fascist. I'm simply not sure that a great man like McCain does himself a service with such self-deprication at this stage. That's my honest take.
What's DU?

No problem. Never been mistaken for a lib.
Thanks for the reminder.
To: EzeeE69
I guess he could get all pouty like obama does if you look crooked at him, and ban a few reporters and TV stations from his campaign.
If McCain refused to go on SNL, or got upset with the script, you libs would tear him apart about that too.
McCain - acting good natured and having fun.
Obama - pouting, bitching and using Chicago strong arm tactics to control his critics.....

It was funny!
Unusual for SNL!
But they managed to look obviously stupid in attempting to mock McCain to his face.
I don't care much for McCain. He can barely be considered a Republican, IMHO.
I do think he is sincere in his stated goals. I don't agree with many of them, but I have no doubt McCain will do his very best to deliver.
Well, as best as a man can, who if he was really an honest man, would have declared himself an “Independent” in the primaries.
We now have a choice between two political professional liars: an undeclared traditional Democrat, or an undeclared Socialist.
So much for all that BS “Republican big tent” about choosing the lessor of two evils, for the past decade.
Will I be happy on 11/05/08 ?
No, either way.

Thugs don't have a sense of humor. What they find funny is disturbing to normal folk.
