The World is Going Insane (or I am)
November 1 2008 | SoftwareEngineer

Something is seriously off with the polling. Beyond the typical oversampling that most polls are doing, here is what puzzles me.

WHY IS OBAMA EVEN GETTING HIGH 40s SUPPORT?

1. The youth vote has been the same as 2004. NO bump there

2. I can’t imagine seniors voting for Senor Obama, especially after he floods the doctors with 45 million new health insured

3. The Jewish American vote for Obama HAS to be less than what Kerry got. No matter how radical a Democrat you are, you owe a religious duty to the land God gave to you. These are the same people that purchased Israel bonds. Some (a decent minority) of them will definitely not vote for an avowed anti Israeli

4. Hispanics in my opinion will not go for Obama (as they went for Kerry) as they have seen what Chavista politicians have done to their old countries. Do not underestimate the Hispanics. They may look like they are one issue voters (Immigration). But they are not stupid. They can recognize a dictator when they see one

5. Middle and Upper Middle Class Whites: With Obama OPENLY threatening to raise their taxes, they would have to be insane to vote for him

6. Evangelicals: This one really astounds me. How an evangelical can or would vote for a guy that is FOR Partial Birth Abortion is beyond me

7. Asian Americans. Mostly business people and mostly very economics savvy. Hard to imagine a majority of them voting for a Socialist

8. Married White Women. I can’t imagine a mom who has a 2 year old kid, trusting the future of this country to a man, who ADMIRES the Soviet Union and Cuba.

While I know McCain will win (my prediction is 52-48 PV), I am astounded that this has gotten so close. How Senor Obama came to get 48% of the vote (in my prediction) is beyond me. He should be losing by 20 points not 4.

Where did he get this reservoir of support to take him to the high 40s? What demographic is supporting him besides the ones I listed above?

The World has gone insane or maybe I have.

We have had a Republican President for 8 years and have a bad economy.

I call BS on the 'concept' of bad economy.

It's just a 'fear' tactic, meant to explain why the FED-RES-BANK injected magic money (which only increases debt) into the major banks.

I haven't seen our 'economy' collapse.

I haven't seen this 'amazing' recovery due to a massive influx of 'cash'.

Gas is under $2.00/gallon.

The 'blame bush' tactic is awfully transparent, and really only works on the weak-minded.

The reason he is so close is because Americans are DUMB.

This is an American Idol election.

I still think McCain will win. I refuse to believe that even dumb Americans will elect an unknown, unproven, untested left-wing radical who consorts with terrorists and racists.

A lot of you have mentioned that you personally know Obama voters.

I guess this is what I am missing. I live in Texas, work as a software engineer and in my circle of friends, co-workers, neighbors and clients I know very few Obama voters (that I SUSPECT are Obama voters) and only ONE confirmed Obama voter.

I guess to me Obama voters are like Elvis.

Your subjective observations are of zero value.

Not true.

We do get to 'haze' the newbie for posting a vanity.

Kinda like a ...friendly zot warning....

WELCOME to FR !!!

Point by point:

“1. The youth vote has been the same as 2004. NO bump there”

Disagree. Collegians seem to view Obama as a black Bobby Kennedy. They may have been *registered* in the same numbers as 04 (debatable), but they will *vote* in greater numbers this time because of their simplistic idealism — they are buying what the O is selling.

“2. I can’t imagine seniors voting for Senor Obama,”

Disagree. They want to be “protected” — having little to do with true national security, and everything to do with Big Nanny being their safety net in any and all crises.

“3. The Jewish American vote for Obama HAS to be less than what Kerry got. “

Disagree to some extent. While there is a portion of the Jewish vote that is reliably Israel First, there is also a large portion that is flamingly liberal.

“4. Hispanics in my opinion will not go for Obama”

Disagree — suggest you read Pat Buchanan’s blog - “The First 100 Days of Obama’s Administration”. His first thesis is that Obama will swiftly legitimize the 12-20 million illegals, thus ensuring the Hispanic vote for the next 20-30 years.

“5. Middle and Upper Middle Class Whites: With Obama OPENLY threatening to raise their taxes, they would have to be insane to vote for him”

Agree. I wonder if there are enough of us.

“6. Evangelicals: This one really astounds me.”

Agreed, but decades of impotent preaching are beginning to take their toll. And Obama has made enough noise about being a “Christian” to confuse some, and some of the rest are convinced that anyone James Dobson would vote for is someone they would not.

“7. Asian Americans. Mostly business people and mostly very economics savvy.”

Agreed.

“8. Married White Women. I can’t imagine a mom who has a 2 year old kid, trusting the future of this country to a man, who ADMIRES the Soviet Union and Cuba.”

Agreed. But to the extent that they don’t, see 2 above. They want to be protected, in a domestic sense, don’t like the idea of war, like all the social programs, etc.

“Thank you for the zingers but I would appreciate a thoughtful analysis as to why Senor Obama got into the high 40s.”

What some are trying to say is, make your point on a normal thread. It is the ‘custom’.

When one posts a thread, without any link or excerpt from a published article, it is a vanity thread.

It should be posted as such. (yes, there is a vanity thread category).

So, you are getting some ribbing. Many posters have done the same while newbies. You won’t be the last. But there has been an excess of these type of posts.

The importance of this election is causing the high occurrence.

Stay, and learn. But be warned that these type of thread posts (vanity) are often the tactic of trolls. So if you are getting some static, you should understand why.

Most of ‘em are voting for the Media Matrix version of Obama, not the real one - they only know what the media is telling them, don’t know most of what we know. Or maybe they are just racists who refuse to vote for a white guy.

Thank you for the response.

My point is that polls are just a tool for manipulating the vote.

When I was younger, it was a ‘don’t ask/don’t tell’ situation before any elections.

You could discuss merits of both sides, but you kept your vote to yourself and your spouse.

It’s too bad we went from that, to this (polls out the kazoo)

The World is Going Insane (or I am)

You are not going insane. Our reality is being tampered with or controlled. No tinfoil hats here. Someone has an agenda and has been spreading it. When you go about your daily lives, think, it does not resemble the chaos of the media reports. Our lives are very good, be thankful. It is only by spreading lies and fear that scum like Obama can make any inroads. Don't let him!

“So do a couple hundred million other Americans. Your subjective observations are of zero value.”

If a “couple hundred million other Americans” DID know “how to caclulate their taxes and read their Constitution” - we wouldn’t be in the situation we’re in right now.

We are about to elect a Marxist because they DON’T....

“I would rather be here than on any other board.”

I could tell. That’s why I wanted you to know it was friendly hazing.

Some well intentioned newbies have been scared off, which is a shame.

It’s just that one can’t be too cautious right now.

I’m not addicted to FR (liar).
