MONTREAL A Quebec comedy duo notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state has reached Sarah Palin, convincing the Republican vice-presidential nominee she was speaking with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
In the interview, which lasts about six minutes, Ms. Palin and the pranksters discuss politics, pundits, and the dangers of hunting with Vice-President Dick Cheney.
The Masked Avengers, who have a regular show on Montreal radio station CKOI, intend to air the full interview on the eve of the U.S. elections.
The well-known duo of Sebastien Trudel and Marc-Antoine Audette have also tricked Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and French president Jacques Chirac.
The call to Mr. Chirac was rated by the BBC as one of the top 30 best moments in radio history of all time.

Well, if she said anything controversial, it will be front page news in every single media outlet in the world soon.

The well-known duo of Sebastien Trudel and Marc-Antoine Audette...If they really were "well-known" then this schtick wouldn't succeed as often as it does.
I heard a tape of a similar scam pulled by a pair of Miami radio personalities. They called Venezualan dictator Hugo Chavez & had him conviced he was speaking with Fidel Castro. It was pretty funny.

It works if you can convince the other person they're speaking with someone famous.

Well, if she said anything controversial, it ,will would be front page news in every single media outlet in the world soon already. Exactly. She wouldn't have said anything controversial to Sarkozy. I'm sure this is nothing. If anything, she will come out looking better.

When you have those dirtballs from Quebec against you, you KNOW you must be right.
Too bad the Brits didn’t send ALL their sorry butts back to France in 1763.

They probably would have released any damaging sound bites. So maybe she’s learning very quickly what to say and what not to say, even to world “leaders”. People say she’s a quick study, and this phone call may actually prove that.

It has to be a fake Palin -- no one running for office, no matter how unsophisticated in the ways of international affairs could possibly believe they were getting a cold call from the President of France. If it is her on that call, I'm afraid it doesn't do much for the 'she's a quick study' theory.

No candidate ever gets a cold call from anybody. One of her staff said the French President was on the line and believing her staff she answered the phone thinking it was him.
