The old records are on the floor, stomped into dust by a constant parade of early voters who, even before one vote has been counted, have made this an election year for the books.
Early voting ended in North Texas on Friday much as it began 11 days ago, with long lines of people filing into polling places to cast ballots in what many called the biggest election of their lives.

With 967,000 registered voters, Tarrant [County] can boast that nearly half of them have already been to the polls.
Mr. Raborn said his county was on pace to clock around 439,000 early ballots for the election, a significant leap over the previous record of 290,746 early votes set in 2004.
In Denton, the expected turnout was about 180,000, vs. 113,000 in 2004.
And in Collin County, 193,218 people had voted early through Thursday, about 45 percent of registered voters. More than 20,000 additional voters were expected to turn out Friday. That compared with the 154,544 who voted early in 2004.

John Tower was first elected in 1961 in a special election to fill LBJs seat when he became VP.
Texas went Democratic in 60 (stolen), 64, 68 (Wallace took votes from Nixon). Nixon carried the state overwhelmingly in 72. Carter, I believe, carried the state in 76. Reagan turned TX red in 80 and it’s been solidly red since.

My wife and I voted straight republican in San Antonio yesterday. The way I figure it, if the democrats get in power and ruin this country, at least I can say I did not vote for them and I did my part.
I notice EL Paso and Nuenca is very low? Hmmm. And Latinos were lower that expected in NV early voting.
My family and I were handing out fliers for Pete Sessions and GOP. My daughter was getting ready to hand a “door hanger” to a lady when she said, “I have already voted...” My daughter said, “OK...” Then the lady continued, “...for ‘him’”. My daughter gave her a big smile and walked on to the next house. All of the people are I know are voting for McCain. I think Obama has committed the ultimate mistake. With all of his money he has gotten more airtime. But I think people are tired of seeing his face. And every time he speaks, he has something new to say. In other words he never has the same plan for his government if he were to win. People are getting tired of him. And let’s talk Hollywood...I knew Barbara was nuts, but she is affirming it with her own actions. How could someone with a Jewish heritage, like herself or say someone like Steven Spielberg, promote somebody who is going to stand around and let Israel be attacked? Keep praying that the Republicans get out and vote. In fact, keep praying and don’t stop praying.

Also the Democrats of that era were for the most part old time Conservative Southern Democrats although we had a significant minority of Libs. (predominatly minorities, union types and “intellectuals”).

Texas will not be close. The question is the margin. I would be surprised to see Mac/Sarah approach the 61% Bush got overall in 2004 but who knows. Repubs seem awfully energized among the people I talk to here in Houston.
Voted early in Chambers Co. No long lines but a steady stream of voters. Overwhelmingly “Republican..” looking voters. Fifteen family members voted early. All straight Republican.

Texas is solidly in the McCain camp, no worries there, but hope springs eternal here in Chet Edward’s district that someday he will be unseated. I will never understand this district’s attraction for Pelosi’s pet.
I was actually surprised by the number of Obama signs in central Plano. Of course, there were a fair number in the Mexican areas of southeast Plano, but that is to be expected
The Rove - Bush plan to attract the Mexican vote by abandoning the border appears to be a failure.
First off, McCain will not lose TX. Second and underreported is that TX will absorb a lot of Louisiana RAT votes from Kartina and Ike. The good news is that we have plenty of padding to render it useless, and draining it from LA. If they can’t go GOP and get the uberlibs out this time, heaven help them.
