Was the 1907 song "Red Wing" under copyright when Woodie Guthrie adapted it into "Union Maid" (1940)? If its copyright wasn't renewed, it would have lapsed after 1935 I think, but I would think a popular tune like that would have been renewed (it was a popular dance tune if nothing else).
BTW, the MTA song (1948) was also based on an earlier song, but the earlier song had been written in 1865--more than 80 years earlier--and was thus clearly no longer under copyright.

Shepard Fairey is the artist who designed the set of Hope / Change / Progress posters in January, 2008 as fundraisers for Obama’s challenge to Hillary Clinton in the primaries.
Hey this is just another one of those guilt by associations I am sure this artist started his hate propaganda about the USA back when Obama was only like 30.
We can only hope the API will release a tape or something about this so it will be legitimized!
