There’s never been a doubt that there is a certificate on file in Hawaii. We want to see what’s ON it. What, exactly is Obama trying so hard to hide that he won’t release it?

This means nothing. Hawaii has a policy of allowing registration of births as “Certification of Live Birth” records for people who are not born in Hawaii!

If Barack Obama was truly born in Hawaii he should publicly present a “Certificate of Live Birth” and settle the question. (Certificate of Live Birth is Hawaii’s version of a birth certificate.)

He hasn’t done so because he is hiding something.

State law (Hawai‘i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record," DOH Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said.

What a jerk.

Obama is running for President of the US.

Citizens of the US have a 'tangible interest', it is the law that he has a certified birth certificate.

The fact that he has not allowed anyone to view a certified birth certificate must mean he has something to hide.

Well that is just not good enough, And the state will have to satisfy a court order to PRODUCE the record so it can be scrutinized. Funny how all of a sudden, and after a quick Obama visit, the State suddenly issues this statement.

Besides, The certificate may well be “legitimate”. But that doesn’t answer the question as to whether or not OBAMA is a Legitimate citizen of the USA and qualifies to run for POTUS™

Obama in Hawaii two weeks ago for his dieing Grandma.

Now we have a statement that they have a certificate on file.

They wouldn't say that previously.

Could the two be connected? I wonder...

I think the location of birth is probably uncontroversial.

In any case, the matter of Obamas contitutional fitness seems like a lot of pettifogging. He was unquestionably born to a US citizen. These children are taken to be “natural born” in the modern usage even if born abroad. The public and the courts will not take kindly to a contrary claim, no matter what previous conventions applied at the time.

The interesting information on the BC, and the reason it is being withheld (why withhold it otherwise?) is probably the name of the alleged father. This is likely to be either confusing or embarassing. The constitutional argument is a wedge to obtain the document because of this other information that it probably contains.

Just because they it’s so; doesn’t mean it’s so. What’s on it and why does he not release it?

McCain released his.

Could be a certificate of live birth in Hawaii. If so he could have been born elsewhere (Kenya or wherever) and the certificate generated a few days or weeks after his mother came to Hawaii.

State law does not allow officials to release the birth certificate of a person to someone outside of the family....

yeah, but not every person is running for POTUS, the highest office in the entire world...

The state's Department of Health director on Friday released a statement verifying the legitimacy of Sen. Barack Obama birth certificate.

Au contraire. The statement does not verify the legitimacy of the COLB. It merely says that the state of Hawaii is in possession of the original.

If the birth certificate said that Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Hawaii, and if the official were to say as much, who would seek to punish him for that? All citizens have an interest in seeing that the Constitution is followed, and the official would not be revealing anything that anyone could reasonably expect to be kept confidential. If James Quimby suggests that Lisa Smith was born in Hawaii, then for an official to confirm or deny that would be to reveal information that James Quimby might not really know, and which Lisa Smith might not want him to know. On the other hand, when Barack Obama says that he himself is born in Hawaii, and that his name is Barack Hussein Obama II, it would seem that he would want everyone to know that. So why not release that information? Unless the real information doesn’t match the narrative?
