Despite Barack Obama's approval of abortion and homosexual activism, new polling by a prestigious Christian research group indicates that the Democratic presidential nominee is making significant inroads among voters who are classified as "born-again" Christians.
The Barna Group for research says Obama is statistically tied (43 percent to 45 percent) with Republican John McCain among born-again Christian voters. "Born-again Christians" are defined by Barna as people who say they have made a personal commitment to Jesus and believe they will go to heaven because they have confessed their sins and accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. Based on that definition, 48 percent of all voters in this election will be "born-again" Christians.
Meantime, Barna says 63 percent of "evangelicals" are supporting McCain, while 23 percent are supporting Obama. "Evangelicals" meet the "born-again" criteria, plus seven other conditions, including the belief that salvation is only possible through grace, not works.
According to Dave Kinnaman, president of The Barna Group, born-again Christians voting for Obama say they are backing the Illinois senator because they believe he will do a better job restoring America's reputation and handling the economy and agree with his stance on the Iraq War.
"People in their 20s or 30s who are born-again Christian are more likely to support Senator Obama than Senator McCain, compared to people who are older born-again Christians, who are more likely to support the Arizona senator," he explains. "So, when you look at it, it's a pretty complex set of reasons, and each person comes to this voting decision with their own unique sensibility, but what's interesting is the Christian community, compared to previous elections, is more open to this Democratic candidate than we've seen in at least the last couple national elections."
Kinnaman says it is important to keep in mind that only one in every ten voters is an evangelical Christian with a biblical worldview and understanding of what it means to be a follower of Christ.
MC: “Similarly, I dont understand how someone can have the Holy Spirit dwelling within him and support the death penalty.”
Because they are two completely different things. Abortion is murder. The death penalty is not. Does that help you understand?
I have noticed someone writing letters to the editor in our local paper, supporting Obama and demeaning Palin (spreading the book banning lie) as well as saying she was incompetent and inexperienced.
The person always identified himself as a minister. I finally had enough of him and wrote a piece excoriating him on all his many errors.
My last two lines were apropos to this thread: I suppose the question I have is, “Minister of what?”. A place where there is no sanctity for the life God has given us is not a Church, but rather, a heretical social club.
I just took a poll of 1, oversampled on the Republican side and a +2/-2 Margin of error.
The results - McCain Palin
At my daughters private Christian school, about half the families are for Obama. I don’t get it.
We grew up in Texas, but now live in California. I don’t get Californian Christians at times.
I was talking to a Church attending friend today who has always seemed Christian, reads the Bible every day and is still undecided. She was adamant that Obama is a Christian and pro Israel.
I told her that the one world nation would start sooner with Obama. Her reply.....That is propaganda!!!!!!!
I let her believe that one Barack is a Christian bit, but pure Biblical Phrophecy is not arguable in my book.
TOTAL COMPLETE NONSENSE. They better go read what The Bible has to say about Homosexuality and how God hates the hands that shed innocent blood (Abortion).
BS meter needed!
Not in California. It’s true here.
In California, I think they put the enviornment and the war as the most important issues over other issues.
Praise God that you are surrounded by Christians. I can attest that there are many more non Christians though.
Here is a break down of the California vote, McCain/Palin have pulled within 22 points of Obama.
At the link is a breakdown of voters including religion, income, race, etc, etc, the only group that Palin/McCain win in are protestant evangelicals.

Billy Graham, I read somewhere, was an old-style Democrat. However, when Dubya was running for the first time, he said something like, “I’ve never endorsed a presidential candidate before, but this time it’s the closest to it.” This is because the Bushes have been family friend of Graham, and he had known Dubya for long.
btt
Oh yeah I believe that just like I believe Obama is a Christian, just like Obama didn't know Rev Wright was a racist, just like Obama didn't know Ayres was a terrorist, just like the News media isn't biased.... like....LMAO...these people are nuts.
Of course she lives with her boyfriend and supports abortion. She is afraid if McCain/Palin is elected then Sarah will push back woman's rights about 50 or 60 years.
So this survey is junk IMO.
Because they are two completely different things. Abortion is murder. The death penalty is not.

It really comes down to accountability. Capital punishment is a result of what one has done (crime). The thought, the decision, the action to carry out the crime. Capital punishment can be found in the old testatment and were part of God’s laws.
For a child in the womb, no crime has done by the child. The child cannot have a though process or commit an action to warrant a crime. In essense, the child is under the age of accountability.
It really comes down to accountability. Babies don’t have it yet.
>>Huh? Someone please explain this nonsense to me.<<
It’s easy. A lot of born again Christians are black. All humans are racist to some degree or another. A lot of blacks are voting for him because he is black and really pretty ignorant of all the things we discuss here.
A similar thing happened with white people regarding Jimmy Carter. It wasn’t racial in that case, but the simple fact that he was the “Christian” candidate was enough for them. I was accutely aware of it because I was NOT a Christian at the time and then became one. I was dumbfounded by my “conservative” friends support of him over Reagan until I remembered the Christian connection.
Race is very real in this election, even to those that won’t admit it to themselves.
This is about as believable as, “Right-Wing, Homeschool, Evangelical Moms for Obama.”
Not in California. White evangelical Christians are voting for Obama. They are into the environment. They are against the war in Iraq.
These are people that have their kids in private school, and McCain supports vouchers. These are people who homeschool, and McCain supports homeschoolers.
McCain is not that different when it comes to the environment then Obama. McCain supports the whole global warming scam.
I know they also believe that Obama is going to tax the rich. I don’t know how that is Christian.
I don’t get it.
She is in denial and headed for a major head slapping. You will see it come to pass. See Post#66.
I know Homeschool, Evagelical Moms for Obama. I think it’s a travesty.
