I used to like listening to him. I think the change came after his recent illness. Either it changed the way he looks at the world, or the meds did. I hope the faithful Republican Al will return.
This is the strangest election I’ve lived through. People are acting in ways you just wouldn’t expect. I sense that people are acting in actual fear.
Fear, under control, can be a good thing. In the case of the Obama turncoats, it’s not fear. It’s panic and cowardice.
The Vice-President is the President of the Senate.
He/she does cast the deciding vote if need be.
Traditionally, there hasn’t been a role outside this scope, to my knowledge. I am not convinced there couldn’t be.
There would seem to be a limiting factor to this, due to the separation of powers. It is intriguing to me none the less, that the majority party leader in the Senate is not referred to as the President of the Senate. He is simply the majority leader.
The Vice-President/President of the Senate is described as being the head of the Senate.
I am not making arguments here. I’m only expressing the inner workings as I understand them, and I am not sure that I do completely understand them.
It would take a body of legal scholars to flesh this out. It wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t agree at the conclusion.
Me too...sad.
People really have their core values challenged in elections as close as this one. It tends to separate the men from the boys, so to speak.
Rantel may have a pretty firm foundation on a number of issues important to us, but still be squishy around the edges.
After the election, he may calm down and be a solid person to listen to again. When McCain/Palin win and he continues criticizing her, I would be unable to continue listening.
There’s a (strong) correlation between homosexuality, and the real freak-outs with Palin Derangement Syndrome.
Almost a perfect 1-1 relationship.
He must be gay.
(and yes, that matters in California this election, whoever it is who keeps saying otherwise...)
I used to like him, but have to turn him off now. He does a segment with John LeBoutlier and they yuck it up about how stupid McCain and Palin are. As if the Dems are going to be better.
It’s so sad and silly. KABC is, except for Larry Elder, in the toilet. It’s like they’re all angling for who can be the most moderate. Zzzzzz. I used to like Doug McIntyre, but his “Bush is the worst president ever” and “Obama is going to win” trash is beyond tiresome.
And Al— what happened? You’re going to punish McCain by not voting for him because he was wrong on a lot of issues? How about the fact that 68% of the military want him to be their Commander in Chief? Does that count for nothing? Every guy I’ve spoken to in the military, including my brother, who is a Senior Chief, really like John McCain and trust him to lead the country and our military. How about respecting the troops? THEY DON’T WANT OBAMA. For their sakes at least, McCain deserves everyone’s vote.
He’s gay, but so what. Until a couple years ago I agreed with him about 95% of the time. I don’t care if he’s gay or straight. I care if he’s right or wrong. Right now he’s wrong.
I agree. This is sad and sick.
But oh well. Obama stands for change.
Crap. :(
I’m still voting for McCain on election day. Yeah. I know we’re in a “blue” state and there’s no chance McCain will carry it. But if we don’t vote for our convictions we’re cowards.
Does he fear Joe Biden who thinks FDR was the president on TV in 1929 and that Columbus discovered America in an air plane?
I’ve been having trouble in the 6pm hour in the car lately. John and Ken (KFI) cannot stand Sarah Palin and don’t like McCain much, though I think they (or at least John) will vote for him.
And Al Rantel (KABC) is really acting spoiled, putting down his own listeners just because he has decided to be a purist. He was so holier than thou tonight, ripping all the hosts who at some point were hostile to McCain (all conservatives, natch, due to McCain’s amnesty stance — most of us find that still hard to forget or forgive and are still concerned about what he would do as President on that issue). Today is different. We’ve all had to compromise and we do not want Obama. That is uppermost in importance today for conservatives.
I will always love Al. He has been very consistent in his conservatism. He’s been through a hell of a year, health wise, and I was praying for him. Yet I have to turn off the radio sometimes because I just do not agree with him here. I get what his position is, and to each his own, but I cannot agree. Obama is too dangerous.
Al, reread McCain’s autobiography. It might help you at least know that this man has character and understands honor and sacrifice for one’s country. For that alone, a vote for him beats one for Obama, who would have blurted out every position of every ship and each target on his first day of captivity in an enemy prison. And making propaganda videos about how evil the United States of America is?? Obama would have volunteered himself for the job right away!
Isn’t it crazy about Doug? I used to tell people about him all the time, because I wanted them to hear him (when he was still graveyard). Now I am finding that it’s almost better to listen to Handel because Doug has gotten so moderate and again, like Al, seems to turn on his listeners.
Whatever kind of koolaid they are drinking over at that station, I sure am glad Larry Elder doesn’t like the taste.
Agree; I heard Al Rantel tonight as well — unfortunately he had an extra hour as Larry Elder was otherwise occupied.
Always enjoyed Al, wish him well with his recovery of course, but tonight I had to turn off his program — while it’s great to stand on principle, in this instance that seems really foolish to me. And yes, Al was sounding a bit like a petulant schoolboy.
Dennis Miller, of all people (different station), seems to have no problem understanding how seriously an Obama presidency could harm the country, so I was pleased when Miller’s show started tonight!
Listen to Dennis Miller on KRLA.
I think Al lost his rudder and anchor when his Mother died.
a manicure and a new dress and al will feel much better
On his morning show today, Al Rantel said that he wished Obama success, even to the point of being able to “walk into a second term.” Is he trying to switch sides, à la Arianna Huffington?
