Palin looks past Tuesday to her political future (according to AP's impartial Beth Fouhy)
Associated Press O ^ | Thu Oct 30, 2008 | BETH FOUHY

Posted on 10/30/2008 5:20:42 PM PDT by presidio9

With days still to go in the White House race, backers of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin are talking her up as a possible contender in 2012, speculation that irritates other Republicans who contend she's a drag on the ticket and that her lightweight image — unfair or not — will be hard to shed.

The Alaska governor has done little to quiet the talk. In fact, she fueled the discussion this week when she signaled that she will remain on the national political scene no matter what happens Tuesday. "I'm not doing this for naught," she said in an interview with ABC News.

The telegenic Palin, who burst onto the national stage seven weeks ago, has divided conservatives — some energized by her strong stand on social issues and others embarrassed by her halting interview performances. On the campaign trail, she is a popular draw, attracting numbers that a Republican Party searching for female star power can't ignore.

The divide is clearly evident.

George Will, a prominent conservative columnist, suggested "Palin has become an even heavier weight in John McCain's saddle than is his association with George W. Bush."

Indeed, a poll released this week by the Pew Research Center found that 49 percent of voters had an unfavorable opinion of Palin, compared to 44 percent who viewed her favorably. Pew also found that unlike past vice presidential choices, opinions of Palin mattered to the ticket.

None of that is apparent as Palin

Once, just once it would have been nice to see an article from Fouhy about how worried unnamed top advisors from the Obama campaign were that the Bill Ayres story or the Rev. Wright story might stick. Either would have been more credible than this one (which she already wrote a couple of weeks ago anyway). Fouhy would do alot more for his/her credibility if Fouhy even wrote one story about how well McCain and Palin get along, and how focused they remain to the task of an election which is hardly over.

Sarah Palin is not an idiot. If she has any aspirations of a political career beyond next Tuesday (and I'm sure she does) she's not talking about it right now with even her closest advisors. Only someone with brain damage would write a story right now suggesting otherwise, because the primary source would never provide material for something like that.

"None of this is apparent to Palin..."

Read: Palin is clueless...doesn't she know we've destroyed her once and for all time?

The best come-uppance to the women among them is that, either way, Sarah Palin is by far the front-runner to eventually become this nation's first female president.

They did the same thing with Hillary. The entire time they kept saying, “Hillary only cares about Hillary” and right up to the convention they were saying that Hillary had something up her sleave. Now that Hillary is campaigning harder than anyone else is for Junior they are saying that she is just hoping he loses. Hillary can’t win and neither can Sarah (with these people). Woman seem to have a problem with Woman more than I would have ever imagined.I guess it’s High School all over again for these “Journalist”

Sarah and Hillary have more in common then they would probably care to admit at this time. I have noticed that Hillary has never attacked Sarah over anything other than policy (She has made that an absolute hard stop). I think she wants to defend her from some of the attacks but she is afraid that the Democratic leadership would destroy her for it. This is just how I have been seeing the situation

Her lightweight image? What bigger lightweight than Obama has ever been this close to the presidency? Any rational thinking human being would realize that the ONLY reason Obama is where he is today is because of his melanin content: A white guy with Obama’s flinty resume never would have made it past the first primary.

All of these silly media-driven “scandals” surrounding Sarah Palin will be quickly forgotten after this election. If clothes, and two gotcha interviews is all the media and the Dems have on Palin, she has nothing to worry about.

This is a very accomplished and competent woman, and an effective governor. Instead of digging through her garbage and sending lawyers to dig up dirt on her in Alaska, perhaps they should talk to some Alaskans about why she has an 80% approval rating in that state.

"Sarah and Hillary have more in common then they would probably care to admit at this time. "

As far as how the media 'frames' their portrayal that is so. It's "conniving diva" criticisms and for The Governor also "Little Missy".

But, of course, when Hillary lost the nomination the media threw out all their "can a woman make it" articles they had pre-written...

It's astonishing to see The Governor winning the war with the media. For a while it seemed certain they would destroy her like many others. I credit this of course to The Governor's character and abilities- but also to the fact that the media is selling mostly women viewers to their advertisers and women identify with her. The media simply loses revenue attacking her unfairly.

She could talk about spreading the wealth all day, and I’d still be tempted to vote for her. Even if she IS married to her grandfather.

Sarah may not have as much testosterone as McCain, but she sure has has bigger cojones.

I wouldn't even bother to vote this year, but for her.

Quiz

Who do you admire the most?

1. A housewife who went on to become the governor of Alaska with the highest approval rating of all "57" governors in the United States.

2. A two time loser. A liberal DemocRAT who writes opinion "columns" for the infamous Ass. Press.

Dittos. Just early voted today. Only because of Sarah. Otherwise, I would have stayed home.

Newspapers are dropping the AP, part of the dinosaur effect. Within four years:
- Fouhy will be out of a job;
- B.O., if President, will be blamed for the Depression;
- Sarah Palin will sweep the country and win the Presidency.
