I find the recent stories about Biden far more believable -- he's on a short leash, he's not supposed to talk to the press, when he speaks he's always supposed to stick to what's on the teleprompter. Obama doesn't trust Joe to be Joe. The reasons are obvious.

McCain, on the other hand, has seen his campaign take off since he selected Palin. She attracts huge crowds. She has real star power. The Base has never been wild about McCain -- but they are wild about this ticket.

Why would McCain (or his staff) have any misgivings? This reminds me of Lincoln receiving complaints about General Grant's drinking: "Find out which brand -- I will send a case to each of my other generals!"

I could see a lot of reasons why McCain’s staff wouldn’t like Sarah. She’s bright, attractive, independent, quick on the draw and has that intuitive political instinct that most people do not possess. Reagan had it, even Bill Clinton had it. Staff certainly doesn’t and she does better out on her own than listening to them. Politicians and staffs have big egos. I’m not trying to down them for that, but I think it takes a big ego to run for office. That also includes Palin. But she campaigns effectively without their help and they don’t like it. And with the ego that it takes to do this kind of work, they’re talking outright about it. I find nothing unbelievable about this at all. But I love Sarah Palin and I think she’s doing just fine.
