It looks like there might be some truth to those rumors former Mitt Romney supporters are already trying to clear Sarah Palin from the GOP presidential deck to make room for their man Mitt in 2012.
Former Romney Spokesman Kevin Madden was particularly harsh on Palin in an interview on CNN. His criticism of Palin is especially noteworthy because we're only days from the election.
In a spot with Campbell Brown Madden said Palin's wardrobe flap showed how "unseasoned" Palin is.
BROWN: And, Kevin, even defending this whole controversy over the clothes, the RNC buying all the clothing, it keeps the story going, and, as Dana pointed out, one more day where it's dominating the coverage.
KEVIN MADDEN, FORMER ROMNEY CAMPAIGN NATIONAL PRESS SECRETARY: Yes. And that's an indication just how unseasoned Sarah Palin is as a national candidate.
Ordinarily, somebody who knows that this is something that you're trying to get to a subterranean level, that you don't want to dominate the narrative for yet another news cycle, would make sure that they don't mention that, and, instead, they focus with a certain rigidity on the message of the day, because that's exactly what a V.P. is supposed to do.
Madden went on to say this is why McCain should have picked someone to be VP who has been a governor "for a long time." (Um, who would that be...?)
MADDEN: Look, that is why people who have done this before, people who have run national campaigns, always tend to look at prospective V.P. candidates, and they're the ones that are nationally vetted, the ones that have been governors on the scene for a long time, the ones that have been -- gone through the scrutiny of the national press corps in Washington. And that's exactly what has happened here, is that, when you put out an unknown and you give them 70 days with which to go through a vetting process, both by voters and the national press corps, ugly things can tend to happen.
You don't comprehend attack ads, especially in primaries because they fracture one's party, are negative ads?
As far as the truth, truth is that Romney had the most liberal record of any of the candidates running and was, by far, the most dishonest.
And, what was dishonest? Portraying Huckabee as tax raiser when Romney raised tax and fees more per year than Huckabee did and when Huckabee cut taxes far more extensively than Romney ever did.
Does Amanda Carpenter live in the gutter, too?
Bush gave Powell singificant roles in his administration... Powell turned out to be a disgrace... How many folks here blamed Bush for CP's quisling act?
Message to Romneybots: the same techniques used by the Obama media against Palin would’ve been used against Romney. To an even greater effect.
The guy has flip flopped on so many issues, it would’ve been comical once they put him under the media microscope.
Just one mans opinion.
They have absolutely NO shame.
Back off pretty boy RINO and make way for a true conservative.
I agree, but if you can find ONE instance of Mitt trashing or bashing Palin, McCain, or the ticket, I'll agree with you... but... you... can't.
I always was suspicious of Romney. Apparently others were too seeing he lost the primary despite having many conservative radio hosts like Ingraham, Levin, Hewitt, an Rush pushing him and despite the fact he had by far the most money and still lost.
The other GOP candidates...all of them...disliked Romney. Now we can see why. He’s a snake.
And as a Massachusetts resident, I have known this longer than most. The man will say anything...emerge into anything...to win.
I grew up in Louisiana home of America’s illiterate in two languages. I claim a lifetime handicap in all matters of spelling, pronunciation and grammar.
Romney is a footnote (if that) in political history. Palin will crush Romney in a Republican primary.
As we know, Romney is no Reagan:
Reagan’s “Eleventh Commandment” of GOP politics: “Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.”
Do I wish Madden hadn't said it? Absolutely. Maybe Campbell Brown is smarter than Madden since she got him to wander off message.
However, the bottomline is that Mitt has been nothing but supportive of Palin from the start.
First, I know it's obvious, but let's get it straight: Kevin Madden is not Mitt Romney.
Second, Madden didn't say anything harsh or "trash" Palin. If that is trash talk then we've gotten pretty thin-skinned.
As I already said over here, most of what I heard him say, is accurate. Palin is no shrinking violet either. She can handle worse than this, can't she? She'd probably agree with Madden. She's admitted herself she's out of her element and has a lot to learn (and her Washington outsider status is precisely what endears her to us, isn't it?). She should thank him.
Much ado about nothing. MSM/lib attempt to make mountains out of molehills to hurt Mitt and Sarah.... helping Obama.
It's just more fodder for the MSM/libs to use against us to divide and conquer the GOP. Only the naive will fall for it.
You are right. These baseless smears are pathetic.
Even if they weren't, it shows the lack of conservative principles Romney has in hiring such aids to begin with.
BINGO! Need to keep our sights on the real enemy... They can bash Mitt all they want a week from today... For now, need to circle the wagons
