Panic Attack at Daily Kos Over Stunning New Gallup Poll With Obama Lead at Only 2 Points
NewsBusters ^ | October 28, 2008 | P.J. Gladnick

Your humble correspondent had figured the polls would start to narrow in the final week of the campaign but this stunning new Gallup poll shows the lead in the Presidential race narrowing much more rapidly than he had assumed. The latest Gallup poll of traditional likely voters shows the race has narrowed down to 49 percent for Barack Obama and 47 percent for John McCain. Here is Gallup's explanation of this poll:

Gallup's "traditional" likely voter model, which Gallup has employed for past elections, factors in prior voting behavior as well as current voting intention. This has generally shown a closer contest, reflecting the fact that Republicans have typically been more likely to vote than Democrats in previous elections.

Meanwhile, over at the Daily Kos, some have nervously pooh-poohed this poll but others are starting to hit the panic button. Here is a sampling of Kossacks sweating buckets with some commentary by your humble correspondent:

I think the DUmmies lock down their forum on election days, especially if they’re losing. :)

I could be wrong, but I swear I’ve read that here in the past.

Axelrod won’t eat anything. He’ll bitch and moan about “America is still a racist nation.”

“I noticed that too. Obama looks mad as a wet hornet.”

I noticed something else - Fox had a small clip of Obama in Hawaii. Apparently he left his grandma’s to go outside. He seemed to be pacing - looking down.

Maybe I’m reading too much into this but he looked concerned about something. Maybe he had learned that the Governor of Hawaii had locked up his so-called birth certificate.

Or maybe he just wanted a smoke ...

I doubt it, they are all too obese to get too far away from a McDonalds!
Cavuto just had a guy on who said McCain will probably get the electoral college vote but not the popular vote, Cavuto said that could cause a real problem. I am sure he was thinking of these fat guys! And more like them...

And you need to quit coming onto every good news thread and trying to go wee-wee on everyone’s enthusiasm.

I agree, this is the election where the young people are heard from ...

I just hope those of us who are really listening can outvote them.

I have a gut feeling that there is going to be some surprises in other states that will take the focus off of Penn, Ohio and CO.

“I still think enthusiasm doesn’t equate to votes when you are talking about young people.”

Nor does it with dead people — who, by and large, are an unenthusiastic lot; yet they seem to vote in large numbers. (So I've heard.)

They want to go to the rock concert but when the rock star isn’t at the polling place they are less likely to show up.
EXACTLY!
The two most reliable voting blocks (in terms of showing up to vote) are Jewish and older. The "youth vote" get all excited when the star is in town but quickly lose interest. They have grown up on video games and other forms of instant gratification.
Let the dhims register everyone between 18 and 30 and then count the number that actually showed up to vote.
I'm in the 50 and older crowd and I'm certainly voting!

If McCain pulls this one out, there will be riots. OTOH, if Obama wins, there will be riots. I’m rooting for the McCain riots. I’m also rooting for the cops to come down hard on the Obamamobs. Let the cops work off their frustrations on real criminals instead of tazing and shooting citizens over a ticket.
