SAN JOSE (CBS 5/KCBS/BCN) ― A new poll of Santa Clara County voters finds Measure B, a one-eighth-cent increase in the sales tax to help pay for the BART extension to San Jose, still has not garnered the two-thirds majority it needs to pass.
A CBS 5 poll conducted by SurveyUSA found that 62 percent of likely voters either lean toward voting or are certain to vote for the extension.
The Yes on B campaign has lined up big names such as former Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta to convince the 17 percent who are still undecided about laying the 16.1 miles of track. With San Jose's Diridon Station as a backdrop, he and other Bay Area transportation officials gave Measure B their overwhelming endorsement Wednesday.

For the record, I voted "NO."
54% of likely voters tell SurveyUSA they are certain to vote 'Yes' on the initiative; 14% certain to vote 'No'; 31%, initially, are not certain. When the 31% who are not certain are then asked, as a follow-up question, whether they lean toward voting 'Yes,' lean toward voting 'No,' or do not lean, and when the third of voters who say they have already cast their ballots are combined into the equation, the results are as reported herein: 62% Yes, 21% No, 17% still not certain.
I think Santa Clara Co. has been allegedly clamoring for this when I lived in the Bay Area as a kid back in the 80s and early 90s. This does surprise me to a certain degree that it failed though.
should have typed “that this poll has it failing.”

Funny that the rest of the BART counties have to pay a 1/2 percent sales tax, but Santa Clara County would only have to pay 1/8 percent sales tax, yet they still won’t go for it. (Doesn’t really matter to me since I’m outside of the BART counties)
However, at the same time, I don't believe that now is any time for these types of projects, considering the CA budget problems and what not.
And if it was extended to San Jose, I’d use it. Beats having to drive to Fremont and catching it there and I could leave my car at home.
If I recall correctly, San Jose opted out of Bart years ago when it would have cost a lot less, so it stopped at Fremont. Later they built the light rail to nowhere. It would be good to extend BART to SJ, but not right now. Caltrain goes from SJ to SF already.
Yes. I was going to make the same point about Caltrain. Why throw even more money down the rail toilet?
If liberals were really interested in reducing travel, carbon emissions, etc., they’d promote telecommuting. They never do. Ask yourself why that is.
telecommunting hinders mass transit white elephant pork projects.
Precisely. There’s no vigorish to be had.

When we lived in Fremont, I could never understand why we had to drive so far to the BART going north, but couldn’t get one going south.
I’m not happy with CA...
Perhaps they prefer to not make it easier for the kind of people who need public transport to come into their area.
