If the Los Angeles Times had a video of John McCain toasting a supporter of the old South African apartheid government, does anyone think they wouldn't release it without hesitation? However, because the Times has a video of Barack Obama toasting former PLO operative, Rashid Khalidi, at an Israel-bashing party that also included terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, they are now coming up with all sorts of absurd legalistic reasons as to why they can't release the video.
Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs has posted the messages between a reader and the a Los Angeles Times representative about the release of this video:

The Times did write about the tape, so Im not sure what you mean aboutsuppressing the video or information from the video. Here is a copy of the report about the video.
Thanks again for writing,

If that is the case, then release the video that you have of the event and dont merely report it. Why is the Los Angeles Times sitting on a videotape of the 2003 farewell bash in Chicago at which Barack Obama lavished praise on the guest of honor, Rashid Khalidi - former mouthpiece for master terrorist Yasser Arafat?
...
Thanks for your note back. It sounds as if you dont find mere reporting to be enough, but The Times is not suppressing anything.
Just the opposite the L.A. Times brought the matter to light.
Thanks again for taking the time to write.

PING!
Has he played the Odinga video?
Actually, the more the LAT refuses to release the tape, the more damage they do to Obama’s campaign....if there is nothing damaging on the tape, why not release it??
The L A Times brought the matter to light?
By hiding the video from public light?
Well say what we will about Bill O, he does have a big audience of middle of the road mushheads who I am sure see this for what it is.
Perhaps I should bring the banking crisis to light...by robbing a few.
If O’Reilly is on it, then the entire Fox prime-time team will be on it. If Sean and Greta are on it, Rush will be on it. If Rush is on it, Levin and Drudge will be on it. If Levin is on it, the conservative talk radio backbenchers will be on it.
Perfect timing, too. 1 week out. Plenty of time to make it stick.
The Bush 43 DWI story broke the weekend before the election and it almost cost him the presidency. Gore started surging after that came out. Gore may have just run out of time - if that DWI story had an extra day or two to stick, yikes.
O’Reilly is a cream puff, egotistical, non-entity. I can’t stand to listen to his bloviating. He doesn’t help “the folks”. I’d rather watch Glenn Beck. At least he has a realistic view of himself.
Here is the message I emailed to family and friends-—
Here is the latest example of Mainstream Media protecting Obama. Like most major newspapers the LA Times is losing money big time and cutting staff.
It would appear the LA Times is looking forward to better economic conditions under an Obama Regime where their main source of income will be publishing press releases sent to them by the Obama bureaucrats.
You're too fussy - I'll take anything that helps in the good fight against liberalism.
This really paints a perfect picture of New versus Dinosaur Media.
The New Media is built on sharing primary documents so that readers and viewers can see and interpret for themselves.
The Dino Media is built on exclusive access to primary sources which are proprietary.
As Obama would say, the LA Times just doesn’t get it. Their interpretative reporting isn’t enough. A video like this is too important to be held under wraps.
Can a news organization be sued for failure to carry out journalistic duty? Not just for this issue but can any organization be sued for not reporting on issues of national interest? I am thinking of compiling a list of instances during the past months and having an attorney examine the evidence to see if a lawsuit can be constructed against specific media outlets.
I know, sounds ridiculous, but have you seen some of the BS lawsuits out there? Any lawyers out there in freepland? Maybe Members of Free Republic vs. The New York Times or CNN or MSNBC or LAT or... :-)
As a reporter myself, I am sorry, these excuses don’t hold water.
If I had a tape like this, I would put it up on the paper’s website, regardless of whom it concerned.
I routinely upload public documents I have used in stories precisely because the public deserves the chance to review things for themselves, not just swallow everything I write like it is gospel.
The LA Times knows the Internet has led to journalism being a conversation. I have no doubt in most things they would put this video up on the web.
The fact they won’t is telling.
He doesn't help the folks?
He's been helping get tougher sentences passed for child molesters among other things.
Is this the ONLY copy of that video on the planet?.........
O’Reilly is a “Colossal Ass” who himself hides embarrassing video as in the Jesse Jackson “N-Word” scandal to protect Democrats.
Proof that O’Reilly is a hypocrit that censors the news when it is unfavorable to Democrats.

I agree....at least Bill O’Reilly is getting the stories out there, that otherwise would have been lost in the MSM bowels.
If they wanted to keep it under wraps, they’d have kept their mouths shut. This may be a ploy to increase their standings. They may just be teasing us before the release...........
