Many years ago, I heard a woman on a radio show talk about her life as a member of the Weather Underground. She said she had been raped by Mark Rudd. Rudd was a Weatherman leader. He is still around and is as unrepentant as Bill Ayers. In fact he’s a big Obama supporter. Obama will roll out the Red carpet for him if he wins the White House.

Mark Rudd was truly hideous and always struck me as a thug (I grew up and went to high school near Columbia, and saw him at events in the neighborhood). He was a sort of on-again, off-again dysfunctional student and was slightly older than most of the people in SDS.

I remember reading an account by Alice Walker, strangely enough, about a white radical friend who had been raped by one of the luminaries of the black power movement and never told anybody until one night she told Alice Walker. Oddly enough, at that point, Walker said she was very offended, because she asked why this woman would not have reported being raped by a black, although she would most certainly have reported being raped by a white. The rape victim apparently felt that the “black power” leftist program would be damaged by her reporting of this rape.

But it happened a lot even when race was not involved, and I remember a very lefty friend saying that she didn’t want to be part of Rudd’s “movement” because all you did, if you were a woman, was make coffee, run the copier, and have sex with any male who requested you in that time slot.
