Vandals hit two S.J. homes with signs supporting ban on same-sex marriage
For the second time in a week, homeowners in South San Jose have been targeted for their support of a proposition that would define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
Unlike the previous incident where no law was broken, the culprits who spray-painted large "No on 8" messages Sunday night on the garage doors of two homes on a cul-de-sac near Monterey and Bernal roads could face jail time and a fine if arrested and convicted. San Jose police were called to the scene and filed a report, according to the homeowners.
The maximum sentencing for felony vandalism conviction is three years in state prison and/or a $10,000 fine, according to a spokeswoman with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. For a misdemeanor conviction, the maximum punishment is one year in county jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
The homeowners, Tom and Kelly Byrne and Frank and Evalina Ybarra, had "Yes on 8, Protect Marriage" signs posted on their front lawns on Southgate Court for about a week. The Byrnes and Ybarras, friends who live directly across from each other on the small cul-de-sac, had their garage doors spray-painted in large letters with the words "No on 8".
The rear window of the Byrnes' minivan was also hit with red spray paint. Two other homes located deeper into the cul-de-sac with Yes on 8 signs were unscathed.

Gaystapo thugs are ratcheting up their intimidation campaign days before the election.

No. I'm in Colorado now but I take an interest in what happens in my old home state.

The numbers are good. Polls show it with a slim lead but its leading in every area of the state except the Bay. And support for traditional marriage is always underestimated in the polls. If it was losing, the NO side wouldn't have to resort to thuggery to derail it.

I don't know what the polls say, but despite the nearly unanimous bleating from the big newspapers, local TV stations, and bigwig politicians (and a couple of corporations thrown in: PG&E and Apple), I believe this Proposition will pass with healthy margins. Virtually equivalent Propositions have easily passed in the last 10 years -- only to have activist judges run around the will of the people. This Proposition codifies in the State Constitution that a marriage is between a man and woman only.
Despite the dust and smoke tossed in the air by the sodomite fanclub, most can see through it.
I believe it passes by close to 60%.
And despite what the 'No on 8' crowd claims, "love" is not encouraging the object of your affection to lead a life of depravity that ultimately finishes off in an eternity in hell. We all have various illnesses and hangups. Encouraging someone you claim to love to follow you in this disease is not love - it is the ultimate act of selfishness and hatred.

Weird how if this passes that McCain still doesn't have a chance there
You'd think that would pull a lot of conservatives and Rep out of the woodwork

Exactly. Love means giving a drowning man a life preserver, not an anchor.
As far at the margin this initiative passes (or fails), we'll see what impact eight years of public education indoctrination has had on our newer voters since we passed Prop 22 in 2000.
I pray people open their eyes and see why Prop 8 needs to pass.

It’s easier to pass a proposition than it is to elect Republicans. People can be so ingrained to vote for the (D) despite their best interests, but a proposition doesn’t have that label attached.
So while, for example, latino and black populations trend toward the (D), those who identify themselves as Christians can vote their professed values in an intiative.
Now the challenge is to break those chains that keep them voting for party instead of principle.

Weird how if this passes that McCain still doesn't have a chance there I agree. It is weird. Too many people are 'star-struck' by the Obama image. Not the man, obviously (since he is quite the chameleon), but the image. I don't know if it is a combination of collective liberal guilt, or voting for a bright looking yuppie, or what ... but I'm glad the United States is not counting on California to get the next President elected. I know for whom my family and I will be voting -- but I don't think it'll quite be enough to get us into the win column.
I think the Marriage Proposition is different. At a deep gut level - people just know there is something black and white on this issue. Despite the magic guilt words of 'equal rights', 'unfairness', 'just a loving couple', ... people innately understand that a marriage is between a man and a woman. Genesis Chapter 2 - the man and woman were to be one.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

You have a point, but I still cannot believe this Proposition will fail.
