WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) -- A Washington(D.C.) jury on Monday found U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska guilty of all seven corruption counts he was charged with over gifts he accepted from an oil industry contractor but failed to report.

Jurors said Stevens, who is running for a seventh term, deliberately failed to disclose on mandatory Senate financial disclosure forms more than $250,000 in home renovations and other gifts from the oil company VECO and its chief executive officer, Bill Allen.

The jury of eight women and four men deliberated for five hours Monday before returning the guilty verdicts.

OH well...goodbye to the old corrupt dude.
Alaska should be lucky to have Palin, because she exposed some of the good old boy corruption in that state.

One of the poster children for the lost GOP congressional majority. Good riddance. People like him have to go for the Republicans to have any chance at a comeback.

It’s time to rename the Anchorage airport. This is a lesson that structures should only be named after deceased people.

Good riddance...but does that mean if people vote him back in Sarah can appoint his replacement?

Why wasn’t his case declared a mistrial?

“The conviction came after a tumultuous week in the jury room. First there were complaints about an unruly juror, then another had to be replaced when she left Washington following the death of her father. Finally, jurors on Monday discovered a discrepancy in the indictment that had been overlooked by prosecutors. Jury deliberations in this historic trial have at times been as contentious as some of the proceedings.”

I’m not saying the guy is innocent, but if I were on trial and there were ‘discrepancies overlooked by the prosecution’, I would have had my lawyer move for a mistrial.

She didn’t expose it, we already knew it was there- for decades.

It’s Alaska. Stevens will either retain his seat or he’ll be replaced by someone else who is crooked. That’s just how it is.

Sad to say he needs to be reelected, then step down. Does the Dear Gov. get to appoint his successor?

Please let’s face reality. There is zero chance Stevens will retain his seat. He’s beyond toast in 8 days.

One of the poster children who the lost the Nation to Socialists and has probably enabled the deaths of thousands of civilians in future terrorist attacks that will be successful as a result of the coming lack of real national defense.

I think he has more of a chance than you think, I know more than a few who say they will vote for him anyway. He hasn’t been bad for Alaska, he’s just been a corrupt little turd. A lot of us would rather deal with the corrupt we know than the corrupt we don’t know.

He left the courthouse by a back door and left in a white van, not in handcuffs. Not saying this was right as I think he should have been cuffed and made to spend the night in jail
