Although the legitimacy of Sen. Barack Obama's birth certificate has become a focus of intense speculation – and even several lawsuits – it has been learned that Hawaii's Gov. Linda Lingle has placed the candidate's birth certificate under seal and instructed the state's Department of Health to make sure no one in the press obtains access to the original document under any circumstances.

It may be a procedural thing as the issue is currently in the Hawaii courts, after all, if this wasn't a Presidential candidate, there is a privacy issue here (not saying that Obama shouldn't be made to release it, but that we shouldn't be quick to knee jerk the reasoning.)

No they are not public records. I don’t know of any state that allows just anyone to access one without meeting certain “need to have/know” criteria.

Conspiracy to thwart the Constitutional Law regarding the eligibility for the Office of the Presidendt, to elect an illegitimate pretender?? That’s grounds for immediate impeachment, not only of Obama, but the Govertnor of Hawaii.

when I have gotten my own I had to fill out a form that I was that person and answer some questions to prove it

The Hawaiian governor is a very strong Republican (she introduced Palin at the convention). So I trust that this report is a sliver of the truth and that, if she has it under seal, she is only following the law.
Not only that, she's been pretty critical of Obama and spoke at the RNC. Odd.

Sorry, but if there wasn’t something stinky about it, it would have come to light ages ago and be posted on his campaign website. The fact that he didn’t do that speaks volumes.
I believe that is a State by State decision. In some States, birth and adoption records are sealed unless requested by court order or family member that they be released.

Then again ... it really does seem strange that there do not seem to be any rules governing whether or how a presidential candidate must establish that he is qualified to run. It's never been an issue before, but wouldn't you think it would be a requirement for appearing on the ballot?
I lost all my identification a few years ago and had a heck of a time getting my own birth certificate. In the end, my mother got it for me.
